General Elections
The
December General Elections are now concluded. In a stunning play of
events CDLand was the sole candidate for Chancellor, only registering
near the end of the time period. Thus does CDLand advance into a full
term with no opposition. The Senate races were a tad different. The
competitors and their results - Dwayne Overbey (FP-NAC) 8; Emerstari
(I-DC) 1 (3.1%); JD Drakan (RP-BUX) 7 (21.9%); Nicolas Drakan (RP-BUX) 5
(15.6%); Regionia Wargrave (FP-NAC) 5 (15.6%); Vlaska (FP-NCR) 6
(18.8%). With this the new Senators are Dwayne, JD, and Vlaska. With
this the Republican Party has 3 Senators, the Freedom Party 2 (Tyfan has
since dropped out of the Freedom Party). Death to Sanity Party has 1.
The
Speaker race was also interesting with Vlaska of the Freedom Party
taking on incumbent Obito Uchiha of the Republican Party. The Vote was 4
to 1 in favor of Obito Uchiha remaining Speaker, he chose to keep JD
Drakan on as Speaker Pro-tempore.
Good luck to all those elected, and better luck next time to all those who weren't.
New Nominations

Senate Questioning
After
Chancellor CDLand's nomination of Vlaska to the Supreme Court failed,
the Senate went on recess for the Christmas holiday. This gave the
Chancellor ample time to debate and think over his next nomination to
replace the outgoing Georgiana. After the Senate came back from recess,
Chancellor CDLand nominated Lewis Uchiha to the Supreme Court. Lewis
Uchiha is known as a former Attorney General and Associate Justice
having served in both roles multiple times. He was also known for
writting "How to be a Lawyer" and also serving as Director of the Law
program and teaching Law in the region for multiple years. He received
only one question in his hearing process. He received the sigh of
Associate Justice and Delegate Ryan Drakaen, but the confidence of other
Senators. The vote was 5 to 0, with 1 abstaining. The Vote ayes were
Obito Uchiha, JD Drakan, Dwayne Overbey, Tyrler Uchiha, and Blooscorn.
Senator Pepe Drakan abstained from voting.
However that was not
the only nomination to happen. Chief Justice Mytzonia's term was coming
up and Chancellor CDLand decided to nominate Mytzonia so that he might
continue his term. He was so far received two questions and the support
of some senators. It is expected that he will be confirmed without much
opposition.
While CDLand had a rocky start with his nominations,
he has since seemed to recover and has nominated people that the Senate
feels confident with.
TwentyUno, Goodbye NS and Hola RL?

CEO
of TwentyUno Media Pepe Drakan has recently announced several new
developments for the company, charting a new direction that it will
take. TwentyUno.com has been redesigned and imagined and is now a
completely Real Life based website. Pepe Drakan has also announced the
end of TwentyUno Radio on Spreaker and future NationStates related
programs. The end will come on January 22nd. With this it seems clear
that TwentyUno Media is turning away from NS and turning to Real Life.
TwentyUno Media and its past names have long been a staple of regional
media, and a rival of North Republic Industries and The Messenger Media
Company. However with TwentyUno leaving NS news behind will this spell
the rise of an even greater North Republic Industries and the springing
up of other media companies? Only time will tell. Even if TwentyUno
stays around in the region it will be redesigned and focused on Real
Life, a whole different market in the media industry. In many ways this
is the end of era, if TwentyUno Media goes through with the changes like
it has described.
Revival of RP?

People
are attempting through various events to try and cause a revival of
Role-play. Right now There is a new RP starting named the City-State of
Tyrin which is centered around the happenings of a City-State named
Tyrin. In it there are 4 great families and a couple other important
factions. The Lords of the City, the Tyrins, only have 3 full blooded
members left and are on the decline. The other factions smell blood and
attempt to use this to take the throne. Chaos, planning, alliances,
betrayal, and more to follow. There are also rumors at other attempts
for new roleplay such as another Pokemon RP. Additionally Chancellor
CDLand has formed a Committee on GovSim to develop ideas, a module, and
see if it can get working again. Though that is still in R&D.
People
are trying to get new and innovative RP to try and spark interest in
the genre again after multiple failed attempts over the last several
months, if not longer. Will these attempts save RP? Are we on the break
of a revival? Only time will tell.
North Republic Industries

North
Republic Industries returned from its hiatus on December 7th after CEO
and Founder Lewis Uchiha returned to the region after a long break.
Already the company has begun pumping and processing and moving out with
new things and publishing new issues and episodes. CEO Lewis Uchiha
stated earlier that he wanted to put more time and energy into the
company and it's subsidiaries wishing to revitalize the economy as a
whole. Indeed within hours of his return he put pressure on the
government to reopen an area for general business subforums and he got
it. The original decision to remove the Market section came from Regiona
who was Chancellor at the time. However Chancellor CDLand brought it
back.
The Messenger Media Company, the jewel of NRI, is already
up and running again with new issues and episodes rolling out. The
Messenger is making its comeback with this issue, the first of the New
Year. TMMC hopes to get at least one Issue of The Messenger out per
month, and the company is very excited for the 50th Issue which will be
the first time a publication in the region has reached such a high
number. Messenger TV has also made a comeback with Episode 13, and TMMC
again hopes to get at least one episode out per month in 2018. Movie
Talks has returned and after a good show of support in the latest
episode, will be continued on. This will be published irregularly as it
is dependent on Lewis Uchiha, host, watching a movie. Radio also has
plans to make a comeback with Talks Over Tea and the Lewis and Daniel
Show. Special Projects in the works may include Ohayocon Vlogging over
the 3 days of the Convention. Of course other newspaper works, The
Courier dealing with Real Life news, and The Daily Messenger will be
worked on to various degrees. The Messenger Media Company though has
expressed deep desire to create an anime related program but has yet to
decide on a medium to put it on be it print, radio, or TV. This may
expand to include other geek stuff such as video games, manga, and the
such.
Other projects for North Republic Industries still in
R&D include watching Anime Movies on certain dates, playing games
such as Civ 5 and Crusader Kings II multiplayer. And other activities.
However the company is still researching these options and if they would
be popular.
Northern Survey Company will be sure to be asking
some questions from time to time as the company feels the need to
collect data about regional matters, government performance, elections,
and also company matters.
North Republic Industries is always
trying new ventures and ideas in order to maximize output and profit for
the company and is always open to suggestions, feedback, and help.
Please aid us in our efforts to revitalize the economy and Media.
Uchiha Clan Monopoly on Culture

The
Uchiha Clan, the biggest family since the Drakans, to come on scene has
staked out it's territory. They have made themselves known for their
prowess in culture and have subsequently taken over most of the
Department. Right now three out of four people in the Department of
Culture are Uchiha. Namely they are Secretary Obito Uchiha, Director of
Festivals and Roleplay Kounelli Uchiha, and Director of Records and
History Lewis Uchiha. However their influence does not stop at just the
department, another Uchiha has announced as part of the RP revival a new
RP named the City-State of Tyrin, with lore, maps, and histories. Plus
rumor has it that yet another Uchiha is planning another RP. However,
their reach does not stop here. Two members are teachers at the
University and the Uchiha have contributed significantly to the
University Library, writing some 25 works.
While the Uchiha have
taken over Culture and are acquiring a monopoly on it, they have not
sat idly by with their newfound power and expertise. Earlier this month
they put on the Star Wars Festival to celebrate the arrival of the
latest Star Wars movie, the festival turned into a massive hit
generating activity, and participation. Then they held the Christmas
Festival which included events such as Secret Santa. Now there's a
Pokemon Festival in the works planned for early January, and a Chinese
New Year Festival planned in February. Even more is being planned and
done behind closed doors in the Uchiha Mansion and the other estates
owned by the Uchiha and its members.
Will the Uchiha expand
their influence? Will they firm up their grasp of Culture? Will someone
try and topple them? Questions yet to be answered but will be in time.

New Game

New Game!
I
first started watching this anime in my anime club at college, but I
never finished it so I decided to go and watch it all the way through
recently and then I went and watched it's sequel New Game!!. What I
found was a sweet slice of life anime aimed more at an older audience
which was refreshing.
The story revolves around Aoba a recent
High School graduate who has decided to go into the work force rather
than go on to college. She lands a job at her favorite game company
Eagle Jump and is placed in the Character Design Team, as she wanted.
Low and behold she's under her hero Yagami, Kou who was the Character
Designer for Aoba's favorite game and series Fairy Stories. Now Aoba
must overcome the challenges of work, life, and experience new things
with a new job, coworkers, and friends.
The Story is actually
really good, and I love the premise of it being set in a company. There
are far too few slice of life anime dealing with work and college, and I
relish the chance when I get to watch one especially as I get older and
am myself in College and work. I do hope that more anime slice of life
anime will be produced like this, because while I like High School slice
of life just as much as the next guy, I want variety and more mature
slice of life anime that falls closer to my age if not older. Besides
the premise, the story overall I think works and is done fairly well. I
loved watching the lives of these Characters and how they work, and
live, etc. It also has a lot of comedic points to it which keeps it
lighthearted for the most part.
The characters are also really
well done, all are unique and well designed and developed. Aoba for
instance is wonderful and so is her childhood friend Nene. Aoba's
coworkers are just as interesting, exciting, and engaging. I felt like
development wasn't reserved just for Aoba, but everyone on the team
develops and progresses and grows as Characters. There wasn't really any
character that I disliked, instead I found myself liking all of them
and found relatable points throughout the Characters.
The art
style is cute, but very well done. I didn't feel like the art slipped at
any noticeable point to my knowledge, and was instead well done and
performed. I very much enjoyed the art.
For the music, overall
it was decently good. I wasn't a huge fan of the opening or ending for
the first season. They weren't bad, but just not really good or stood
out as amazing. I would say that the ending song was better than the
opening's I tended to skip them most of the time. Now the opening for
the second season New Game!! was much better and more enjoyable. The
voice acting having watched the English Sub was very well done, I
thought the voices matched up rather well and it sounded amazing.
The
ending to the first season I thought was rather well done, a nice
stopping point. The second season as well also stopped at a fairly nice
point, but rather it left me wanting even more. Perhaps we might hope
for a new season later with a possible time skip of several years or it
could even pick up right after the second season left off. However the
ending overall was decent.
Overall I really enjoyed by time
watching New Game, both seasons. It has a few points that I'm not crazy
about, and I do wish that there were some male characters in the anime
even if they aren't working in the company but at the same time it was a
very anime good anime and left me pleased. I really enjoyed it, and
thought it was good.

Senate Midterm Election

After deciding what end was up and what was happening the Mid Term Senate Race is nearing the end of it's run. The results so far are that Republican J.D. Drakan and Front D'Action Populaire Timpetotia will be elected to two month terms. A run-off is taking place to decide who shall fill out the remainder of Senator Toir's seat currently filled by Bacilli. Front D'Action Populaire Bacilli and Democrat Nosma Washington moved on to another run-off while Republican Regionia Wargrave fell behind. In the run-off between Bacilli and Nosma, they tied again and had to go onto a third run-off. In the end the region was spared a fourth run-off with Bacilli taking the win. The result of this is that the Senate will have the following composition 2 Senators Otaku Party, 2 Senators Front D'Action Populaire, 2 Senators Republican Party, 1 Senator Death to Sanity Party. In all the Otaku lose a seat, the Republicans stay the same/gain one. The Democrats lose one/stay the same. And the FAP gain 2 seats and break out on senate.
The New speaker was Tyfan Uchiha from the Otaku Party, and appointed Lewis and Daniel as Speaker Pro-Tempore. A sign that the Otaku Party will be taking point in this Senate. However no coalition has been formed and no party has a majority. With possible party flips and mergers on the horizon the Senate composition could radically change soon and see different things happening.
Citizenship and Voting

The Debate has been up in the air and all around about exactly what is a Citizen and who can vote. Or rather it's all been about voter registration. J.D. Drakan has spearheaded the movement to have people register to vote in an attempt to limit whipping inactive voters, aka the Ghost Vote. However the Front D'Action Populaire has pushed back hard in response saying that this wasn't what TAR was meant to be and that it is degrading for people who've been citizens for years to register to vote. Now there are two measures before the Senate one to overturn and one to repeal. With the Front D'Action Populaire gaining 2 seats in the Senate they have gained a lot of power to push their agenda however J.D. Drakan (R) has also gained a seat and is in a prime position to defend his registration. While at first it was hard to say what bill would have moved on, it seems that J.D.'s amended version won over and moved to vote receiving the support from Republicans, Otaku, and the Death to Sanity Party. The Front D'Action Populaire either voted against or abstained on the bill. While the Front might have wanted to achieve more it seems that at least in part this was a way to partially sooth them over.
Olympiagate

The first scandal of the Kounelli Administration took place just recently. The Chancellor and Secretary of State had arranged for Olympia to have a State Visit on the forums. This caused a massive reaction by Regionia Wargrave who called for a boycott of the visit citing that Olympia banned a citizen of The Allied States without trail or reason. This citizen is Regionia. This sparked massive debate on the subject and on Olympia as a region. Olympia was founded by Pepe Drakan, who also serves as President. Pepe founded the region reportedly because of his turn of approval in the region. He then recruited a lot of TAS' left and left leaning members and along the way gained others as well. Many people disliked the State Visit and Olympia as a region due to these things. The fire and debate over the whole issue with Pepe, Olympia, Regionia, etc. caused the State Visit to go South (not to Buxton) and it was ended at the request of the non-TAS Olympia members.
As a result of Pepe being pretty much over TAS and having his own region people have asked that he be removed as an Admin for regional security and to give it to someone more dedicated and active in TAS. Also Governor Regionia of Buxton has tried to pass measures to show the state's disapproval of Olympia but it's seen little success. With things going haywire this was a big gate, scandal, and bungle for the Administration.
Tyfan Media Comes to North Republic Industries

North Republic Industries Chairman Lewis (and Daniel) Uchiha announced that Tyfan Media would be coming under the Umbrella of the Company. Tyfan Media would be working with The Messenger Media Company and by itself to publish great content for the region. The deal is expected to help both companies in the process and help NRI assert dominance in the Media Industry.
This comes as North Republic Industries is rumored to be trying to take back The Herald, the leader of real news, and also cut it's ties with TwentyUno/Evolve after their CEO Pepe Drakan has fallen inactivity.
Sleepy Forums

The Forums have started to die down again with activity taking a hit after Chancellor Kounelli put in for a Leave of Absence, reportedly so she could sleep. This comes later after Arbor Mist and Toir have both vanished into the night. Though Arbor is said to be intertwining his roots with another tree. However Acting Chancellor Britarvia, who just recently switched over party lines to the Democrats who have faced heavy loses, hasn't been seen much at all and many bills that were passed were left unsigned. Some members of the cabinet and the Senate seem to be holding on, but with mixed results. Some people, Regionia, are decrying this inactivity and asking people to get busy. A few people we talked to said that this is all a result of our Discord culture which has been increasingly taking over people's time and activity drawing it away from the forums where more substance is. This has caused a number of people, for this reason and others, to leave the main Discord server.
Could this all just be a slog, a low point? Is more activity on it's way? Only time can tell.
Tao Comes to TAS

Tyfan Uchiha has brought Taoism to TAS. The religion has seen a spark of interest from others in the region, especially for their quote posting. A mini scandal broke out when Tyfan originally posted the temple in the Church of Northerntal, but the mistake was soon corrected and nothing ever really became of it, and it really wasn't an issue. Obito Uchiha has taken an interest in this new religion. Perhaps some competition will help to bring more activity to the Church of Northerntal and other religious organizations. Either way The Temple of Tao seems to be a nice addition to the region.
Uchiha Clan Rises

The newest family is in town and are calling themselves the Uchiha Clan, after the Uchiha Clan from the popular anime Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. The founding members include Tyfan Uchiha, Obito Uchiha, Mytzonia Uchiha, and Lewis (and Daniel) Uchiha. A family this big and powerful haven't sprung up since the Drakans. Other notable families in the region have included the Wargraves and the Washingtons. The Uchiha Clan seems bent on being a powerhouse for RP and activity, among other things. Could the rise of this new family be a come back for Families in the region? Perhaps this is spelling the end to the Drakan or at least their monopoly. Or it could just be another blimp on the radar. Either way it seems that the Uchiha Clan is here to stay, at least for now!

Nodame Cantabile
Nodame Cantabile. I first came across this title I believe when I was searching for anime and I found it on Crackle actually. I think I was at my sisters house, wanting something to watch as everyone else had either gone to bed or what not. I decided to put on this little show, and boy was I in for something. I fell in love and now I'm making myself want to watch it again.
Shinichi Chiaki is a first class musician whose dream is to conduct among the elites in Europe. Coming from a distinguished family, he is an infamous perfectionist—not only is he highly critical of himself, but of others as well. The only thing stopping Shinichi from leaving for Europe is his fear of flying. As a result, he's grounded in Japan. During his fourth year at Japan's top music university, Shinichi happens to meet Megumi Noda or, as she refers to herself, Nodame. On the surface, she seems to be an unkempt girl with no direction in life. However, when Shinichi hears Nodame play the piano for the first time, he is in awe of the kind of music she creates. Nevertheless, Shinichi is dismayed to discover that Nodame is his neighbor, and worse, she ends up falling head over heels in love with him.
The story is amazing. There are very few anime out there that are set in college. Other ones that come to mind are Honey and Clover, Genshiken, Golden Time, and I can't think of anymore off the top of my head. Most anime if it has a school setting are in High school or middle school, which is fine and natural, but it's nice to get something set in college, especially as you grow older and want a more mature anime. The story genres are slice of life, romance, comedy, Josei, music, and drama. The story it's self if very nice, while very comedic at times it also can deal with the serious topics of facing one's fears, romance, school life, and living. It's mature yet whimsical. I really enjoyed what it had to tell and show.
The characters are some of the best. Nodame and Chiaki are amazing. Not only by themselves but together. They show a great dynamic and are amazing to watch. They're two of my favorite characters. However there are several other great characters in the show, and some very minor ones done really well. They did a great job at building them up and then also developing them over the course of the show.
The art style is overall pretty good. It's for the most part leaning realistic, but does at times when it needs to be funny is more whimsical and "cartoon" ish if you will. Most of the show has what I would call a powdered look, similar to Honey and Clover and other shows, but it's fairly easy to get adjusted to. A big problem is the show uses CGI for the orchestral scenes, which is kind of out of place and disjointed, doesn't always look the best, but I guess it gets the job done as it really does look like they are playing, and I am told that they have correct finger placement and such.
The music, this is another place where the anime shines. In a story like this, it was made for anime a bit more than manga since you can actually hear the pieces and understand how the characters are describing them. Feel the notes, and be them. I've always liked classical music, but this show got me into it much more and helped me to develop a greater love for it. It helped me to find some of my favorite pieces, and my favorite composer, Sir Edward Elgar. I'm no composer or player, or classical snob, but I do like listening to it. The Opening and endings are amazing, some of the best. Especially the opening to the first season. I love it, the music in this show is amazing.
The Voice acting. What can I say. There are three seasons to this anime, and only the first one is dubbed. When I first got into it I didn't know about the other two seasons and them not being dubbed and I watched the first season dub. I have heard some say that they're not a big fan of the dub, but I for one love it. I really liked the voices that they got for all the characters, and I loved the voices for Nodame and Chiaki. However moving from dubbed to subbed to watch the final two seasons really hurt me and my immersion. I'm so divided on to tell people to watch a dub which I love or just watch subbed so that there's no transition. I'm also divided on what I should do if I go to rewatch it one day. All that said the sub is pretty solid, and there are a few things which the dubbed didn't pick up which the sub has so there's that. I like the sub, I just which that it had been dubbed all the way through, you know?
The ending. Hmmm. Overall I liked it. There could have been more, but overall I liked it.
Overall the anime is one of my favorites. I really love it. It's a great show and I hope that you too will give it a shot. It's a fantastic show, that I love. Now I am sure that is because I love these kinds of shows - slice of life, rom coms, etc. To people who don't like those genres, they might not be such fans. I for one, love it.

Brunhilde as a private citizen saying "Chug bleach. Heil Hotler. [sic]"
Britarvia though acting as a private citizen, performing a joke, and
unaware of who Brunhilde was caused a massive spur. Brunhilde and
Europeia both without giving warning, the right to response, or due
process to the TAS Government, posted an open letter to NationStates as a
whole condemning The Allied States for homophobia and racism. Later
people have also accused The Allied States for Nazism. Europiea called
out The Allied States for being "alt-right." With this Europiea decided
to boycott the NationStates World Fair, following this response several
other regions who are friendly with Europiea joined in on the boycott.
These boycotts caused the Nation States World Fair Committee to discuss
The Allied States status as Host of this year's World Fair.
These
actions by Europiea caused a massive uproar within the The Allied
States Government, with tons of debate, talk, and discussion on the
matter. The Chancellor eventually released several statements to try and
cool the situation by saying that the statements of one private
individual doesn't reflect the region as a whole but they were met with
little success. However The Allied States and Europiea did come to the
negotiation table. On The Allied States side were such names as
Imperium, TNR (Ryan Drakan), and CDLand. During this time the Department
of Justice, under leadership of Attorney General Leodore Lionheart
(Lewis and Daniel), launched an official investigation into the matter
and to exhaust all legal avenues in the situation. The Investigation
which was carried out as fast as possible, found that the only thing
that the telegram could be tried with was Hate Speech, but regional law
prevents charging someone with Hate Speech without issuing a warning
first. Thus the only thing that the Department of Justice could do was
issue a warning to Britarvia. Many people hailed the decision because of
its extensive length, impartiality, and legal. However such response
did little to calm it.
During negotiations Europiea was
unforgiving and uncompromising, and little was achieved in such a
discussion. However removal of Britarvia as founder was put on the table
as an option. While all this was happening several pieces of
legislation were put on the table in the Senate, and are still coming
forward. One such, and the most controversial, The Founder Control Act
proposed by Imperium. What made this matter even more controversial was
that it was moved to vote after just one hour in the Senate. This act
alone caused Senator Leodore Lionheart and Speaker Arbor G. Mist to spar
over the matter. Eventually it was put back into debate. Senator
Leodore Lionheart has raised many issues with the bill and is leading
opposition to it. The Condemnation of All Bigotry and Hateful Remarks
was moved to vote after just four hours, also sparking a remark from
Senator Leodore Lionheart. This comes as a total of 10 bills were being
voted on at once. This spurred Senator Leodore Lionheart to write an
open letter to the senate showing his dismay at how the senate was
handling itself, and that if it continued he would ask for the Speaker's
resignation. Other bills on the table include repealing the warning
act--the act which saved Britarvia from facing a court case.
With
all the talk about possibly removing Britarvia as founder, many
citizens have come forward to show their solidarity with Britarvia with
the hashtag "#IStandWithCam" and posting pictures of cactus - the symbol
of Britarvia. Already four citizens have publicly come forward to stand
with Cam. However there may be more as the issue is hot and people may
not wish to be public about their feelings.
The Allied States,
and its few friends such as Josh Ravenclaw, combated the accusations of
homophobia, racism, and Nazism. However even with such remarks Europiea
and company have not relented in them. There have been talks of spies
within The Allied States as well, however that is unconfirmed. In the
end though the NationStates Wold Fair Committee had their hand forced,
and with little other options had to take back The Allied States' right
to Host the World Fair. Following this the Chancellor issued a statement
calling that all Europiea diplomats and dignitaries remove themselves
from the regional discord server.
Now in the aftermath of
Telegate The Allied States is still feeling the rippling effects of it
and will for quite some time after. The biggest issues that The Allied
States will face in the coming days may be 1. Should Britarvia be
removed as Founder? and 2. What will be The Allied States role in
Foreign Affairs now. Both of these are big questions, and will shape us
for times to come. Telegate now joins such events as the April Crisis as
moments that shaped our region.
Games of the Year

We
here at North Republic Industries and The Messenger Media Company went
through the games that we played in 2016, which admittedly wasn't too
many either way we decided to put forward our games of the year. Because
we can do what we want we chose two games. Those two being Stardew
Valley and Pokemon Moon (and Sun).
Stardew Valley was an indie
game released initially on steam in February 2016. The game is inspired
by the Harvest Moon series of games, and indeed it captures a lot of the
same feelings, emotions, and joys that Harvest Moon did. It really
reminds me of Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town, my favorite Harvest
Moon game. I am a big fan of Harvest Moon, I love them. Stardew Valley
has filled a void that I've had since I haven't played a new Harvest
Moon or now Story of Seasons game in a while. Stardew Valley adds a lot
to the formula, and does a lot right. There are some complaints that I
have about the game, but I can easily look over them for the most part
because of how good the rest of the game is. And it is so good that
there are many parts I feel that it could have done so much more in,
maybe it will come later or not at all. However you slice it Stardew
Valley was able to capture the Harvest Moon and add a lot it to make it
its own creation. With a base price of $15 on steam it's a price that
you can actually wrap your mind around.
Pokemon Moon (and Sun)
the 7th Generation in the Pokemon series. At first I was a bit hesitant
about the next gen, however the more I talked about it with my friends
the more and more excited that I got for it, and I pre-ordered it (only
my second pre-order) and picked it up at a midnight release, my first
midnight release. This next gen changes up the formula. There's no gyms,
badges, there are islands. There are challenges now, Z powers, and
more. Of the coolest additions is Alolan forms, where they've taken Gen 1
pokemon that we all know and love and have given them new forms to fit
the region of Alola. Not to mention all the new cool and cute pokemon
that they've added in this generation. Another great addition was
getting rid of HMs and putting in riding pokemon, no more HM slaves! I
was not disappointed in Pokemon Moon, and indeed I was very impressed
about it. The only two complaints or perhaps my two biggest complaints
are the Z moves which I never use and feel like it's just there to sell
merchandise, and then also the ending of the main story. However, this
is the best pokemon generation in a long time, and it was a blast to
play through it. Pokemon X/Y was a good game, but Pokemon Sun and Moon
are like a breath of fresh air. I hope in the future they also add in
more to cater to the older fans of the game, they have a bit already but
I would love to see more. I am very confident in where Pokemon is
going, and look forward to more. Until then I'll be playing Pokemon
Moon.
2017 Looks promising with games like The Legend of Zelda:
Breath of the Wild coming out, as well as Mass Effect: Andromeda and
many other games. Also wishing that I had a PlayStation 4 as well to
play some of them. But we will have to see what 2017 has in store for
us.
North Republic Industries in 2017

Happy
New Year! Here's to a good one. Now to look at the yearly outlook for
North Republic Industries and also seen where we've been.
2016
was a good year for North Republic Industries and it's affiliates. The
birth of The Herald, which split off and has become a hit within the
region. Messenger Radio Network was launched with shows like The Lewis
and Daniel Show, Talks over Tea, and Movie Talks. It has been pretty
successful. Season 2 of Messenger TV, and now starting into Season 3.
The Daily Messenger was launched which took hold in the region,
providing faster news. The Messenger hit a milestone of our 40th issue.
The Northern Survey Company became another polling company in the
region. NRI went purple and pink in October and November for Brest
Cancer and Alzheimer's. Overall CEO Lewis and Daniel rated 2016
positively.
Now in 2017 North Republic Industries will continue
off those successes and continue to grow and enhance the company to make
it as best as it possibly as it can be. In 2017 NRI will celebrate it's
5 year anniversary and has big plans for the celebration. Many of the
new shows, and old that launched in 2016 will be continued in 2017 from
The Daily Messenger to Talks over Tea, even Movie Talks. There are some
plans for new things such as bringing back the Soap Opera Broadcasting
Corporation. NRI is in a partnership with Evolve Media with Premier. CEO
Lewis and Daniel said that the biggest thing will be that NRI will
strive constantly to be active, to be out there, and to pump out
activity as much as it can. 2017 Looks good, and we hope that you will
share it with us.
Anime of the Year

Not anime of the year
2016
was overall a pretty good year for anime, which is always good because
we always need new anime that's good. On that I have also not watched
every single anime that came out in 2016, sorry to disappoint
expectations. Now without further ado let's get down to business.
Anime
of the Year. I award this honor to Re:Life. Re:Life was actually looked
at in The Messenger last issue, but basically to summarize here. The
Story is about Arata Kaizaki a 27 year old, kind of a NEET, helpless
person. He quit his job after three months and has yet to be able to
find another one. He works part time in a convenience store and can't
find a new job. But that is about to change when he is approached by
Yoake Ryou of the ReLife Research Institute. He wants Kaizaki to become a
test subject. He would looked like he's 17 again and go to high school
school for a year. In exchange he would have all his living expenses
covered. Thus does Kaizaki begin his high school life again. This show
was overall amazing, and as someone who is in College now, and left High
school, I can relate to it. What would I do differently if I could go
to High school again? The story though was very well done with great
characters, art, voice acting, and music. My only real complaint about
the show is the ending, because it doesn't really end. This series is
longing--needing a second season. It left me longing for so much more,
but there's none yet. I could go to the manga, and I might have. I can't
remember. But anyway I long for more, and overall I would consider
Re:Life the Anime of the Year.
Honorable Mentions. Erased, Re:Zero, I've Always Liked You, Drifters,

Avatar: the Last Airbender (*)

Avatar: the Last Airbender
Let
me tell you first how I came upon Avatar: The Last Airbender (ATLA),
and my history with it. I was in third grade or so, when I saw the
second episode, I believe, on TV. I had seen this same exact scene just
days prior. I thought to myself "Oh this bald boy is on again." Not
really all to interested into the show, but I gave it a chance and I
fell in love. Absolute love. I even formed a "club" at my school
dedicated to it. Needless to say that later in the fourth grade I had a
falling out with my clubmates, and though I cursed the name of Avatar
that day it was very short lived because why do you need friends when
you have ATLA? Still one of my club members stayed around, still friends
with him today. Well when your K-8 school only has 60 kids a grade you
tend to stay friends with a lot of them afterwards. I had though a deep
love and obsession with the show. In fact I would stand up and bow every
time the opening played at the start of each episode. ATLA has always
held a special place in my heart. It taught me a lot, and helped
influence my tastes afterwards. As I grew older though I moved on to
other things never really re-watching the show. Until now. And to my
surprise I missed two episodes of it! I had never seen them before! I
did get an update on one of them from my friend. Anyways so I was
reunited with an old love. Anyways I could probably go on and on and on
just about my history with it but let's move on!
"Water. Earth.
Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then,
everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar,
master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed
him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed and my brother and I
discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang. And although his
airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he's ready to
save anyone. But I believe Aang can save the world." Honestly there's no
better synopsis of the story than that. I will add though because it's
not made clear here that in this world a select group of people can
bend. Thus water, earth, fire, and air. Not everyone can bend, only
certain people - kind of a genetic trait or something. And as you can
probably tell the fire nation is hunting the avatar, and now he hast to
master all the other elements and defeat the Fire Lord.
The
Story is epic, wonderful, and amazing. At it's core it's your simple
"group of friends has to take down big bad evil and save the world."
However, to think that is the story in it's complete is far far from the
truth. The story takes on points such as coming of age, honor, love,
friendship, family, and many more elements. It writes such a fascinating
story that few other shows can compare with it. Also the filler, what
little there is (if you can consider it filler), is so well done that
it's hard to know that it was filler. A few things that make the story
so great is that it builds up this amazing world, and sets in place
rules and then stays by them. It lives in it's world and does well in
it. Since the world is so great and well built it adds to the story so
much since we're traveling all around it. Honestly the story is amazing.
The Characters though are so amazing. Let's just start off with
my favorite. Iroh, talk about a total wise badass of a guy. He's
probably a leading reason why I like tea and facial hair so much; not
mentioning my love of old guys in shows, especially when they are wise
and easy going but at a moment's notice can completely level a city (bit
of exaggeration) not necessarily because of talent (they have that) but
because of the years of experience and practice that they've put into
their talents. Iroh drops so much wisdom on this show that I have like
four pages of his quotes. Not to mention that he's hilarious. I wish he
was my uncle, heck I wish I was him. Iroh has been and always will be my
favorite character in ALTA and perhaps of all time. However it doesn't
stop at Iroh we're talking about my second favorite Toph, 3. Sokka, 4.
Roku. I mean I could go on and on and on and on. Because ATLA boasts
such a great cast of characters, that are not only unique and well
written but evolve and become something more at the end of the series
than they were at the beginning. Plus most of the time they are
hilarious. They not only become characters but become human with their
own wants, needs, flaws, and attributes. I could go on for days about
all the characters, especially my favorites. The Characters shine is an
already bright world, and they add to everything.
The Art style
is kind of a mixture of Japanese and western influences which makes
sense. The show was sort of an American take on anime so it makes sense
that the two styles sort of blend together. Anyways the art is amazing,
though simplistic at times it draws you in and keeps you. Some of the
fighting scenes especially are really well done. My only pity on the
show is that it hasn't been officially released on blu-ray. But even
still it has great art. The Music, the magical, wonderful. I've even
learned parts of a couple of songs. I learned all of leaves of the vine
and part of the girls from Ba Sing Se. But just the score to the series
is iconic for me, and helps to add and create the series. The Voice
acting, I must say is amazing. The voices match so well and they become
the characters. Really well done.
The ending. Hmmmm. Overall I
liked the ending. However I felt like the last season especially kind of
went by really fast. Like they're not doing anything then bam time to
fight the Fire Lord. So the ending was rushed. And watchers of the show
will know how much I wanted Iroh to take the thing, also sad to see Iroh
have little screen time in the last season. But anyways The ending was
satisfying enough and wrapped up and finished enough that I was
satisfied. Back when it finished I remember wanting, waiting, for a
fourth season. To see Aang rebuild his nation and of course see more of
the gang. But that season never came. Which was a bit disappointing at
the time. So I would have liked it if they had added in about 5 more
episodes to ease in more to the ending, and you know maybe a fourth
season. But it's probably better that the end there than start breaking
all of the things that made ATLA and it's world amazing. (Looking at you
Korra. Go die in a hole).
I have had so much enjoyment out of
this show. I've probably had just as much from when I first watched it
to now. It's suitable for all ages. This show though is just so, so
enjoyable. I could watch it for days, and practically binged watched it.
Overall this show is just so amazing. I'm so glad that I
re-watched it. It holds up very well. The story that it tells, the
characters that it has, the art, the music, just everything wraps
together to create this amazing show. It's definitely one of my
favorites, if not my most. Just amazing, amazing. If you've not seen
this show, it is a must. Go. I love this show so.

Interview with Arbor Mists

Hello! I am joined with Arbor Mists to talk about his Senate race mainly. So please enjoy.
LnD: 1. So why are you running for re-election?
AM:
Great question, I believe that as long as you have a drive to serve the
people you should at least try. We have major policy decisions coming
up in the next term, from the economy to how we will ensure that the
Allied States becomes a major force within Nation States. I believe that
all starts here in the Senate, and I hope with the support of other I
get a chance to be apart of the decision making process.
LnD: 2. Do you feel that you've succeeded as a Senator and added to the region and the Senate?
AM:
I don't know if I would use the word succeeded. Active the word I would
lean on more. It has been a positive experience for me being one of the
most active Senators this term, granted a majority of my ideas didn't
make the finish line. That isn't the point of it all though, it is about
putting our ideas out there, and I feel like I still have many more
bills to offer. The one bill I do enjoy the most that passed was The
Friends with Benefits that allows the government to create a member of
the week system, supporting activity is a very important matter to me.
Another bill that was close, but ended up becoming law was the Senate
Reduction Act, a bill that reduced titles and ensured real elections. As
most know I was one of five Senators that didn't get voted into office.
There was five positions open, and five members running. We can't have
that again. I think that bill is the most impactful measure to pass in a
while.
LnD: 3. How do you hope to improve if elected? What's your next major goal?
AM:
I hope to keep learning from veteran members, and pass a lot more
meaning bills in the Senate. The Senate is a place I would like to call
home for the distant future, but that comes with compromise and a reason
to leader. My next task is to create a body that will ensure all great
ideas become a reality within the region, that is up for debate right
now. We need a not only pass bills, but ensure they are followed
through.
LnD: 4. You've started to campaign early, is this because you think this upcoming election is going to be very competitive?
AM:
Two reasons, first I recently step down as Speaker due to some real
life issues I didn't want my fellow members to take that as a sign of
losing commitment or drive to be a part of the region. Second is because
of a bill that I helped passed, the Senate Reduction Act will make this
election very competitive and I want citizens to have as much access to
me until election day as possible.
LnD: 5. You've stated that
the economy is going to be a very important issue, and indeed it is. I
was wondering what's your take on it, what's your plan, your 2 cents.
AM:
The economy is a touchy subject, personally I think we can make a
function economy but that will take realistic ideas and a team to ensure
it's functionality. We have a choice moving forward we can either kill
it or make it roar. As Senator I will respect the will of the people,
and if we agree to keep the economy I plan to use my time creating plans
and programs that ensure that is works for the entire forum and every
member.
LnD: 6. We know you resigned as speaker this term, but if re-elected would you seek the office again?
AM:
Of course I would love a chance to be Speaker again, but I don't plan
on seeking the office for a while. The region can't afford a part time
Speaker, I want to ensure that I can provide my full focus to the job
before asking for the people for the opportunity again.
LnD: 7.
So we've made the Senate smaller already, do you think that the Senate,
and specifically you might look again in the coming term to make it even
smaller?
AM: I think the reduction we made should be fine for
our government to function for the time being, of course if we see a
spike in members or a slide in members we can review it again later.
LnD:
8. You've already received quite a number of endorsements from
Chancellor Pepe Drakan to Chief Justice JD Drakan, do you think that you
have this election in the bag? Are you feeling confident?
AM: It
is an honor to get those endorsements, but I don't take that as a sure
thing. The thing about politics is that is as fickle as the wind, I feel
I have a decent chance, but it would be foolish for me to be confident
when it comes to what the voters want or expect in any race.
LnD:
9. I've seen a lot of people over my days, and a lot of Senators. What
makes you special, what do you do in the senate that no one else does,
how do you contribute in a unique way?
AM: I am not sure if there
is anything truly special about me as a Senator. However, I have shown
that I am committed and willing to ensure that the Senate is active. If
there is something unique I bring to the table, it would be that I try
to make sure that my bills are outside of the normal debates found in
the chambers. That being said everyone of my fellow Senators are amazing
and I am lucky to be able to be a part of the conversation.
LnD:
10. You haven't made a huge platform with a lot of points and
positions, so what do you think are the top three issues the region is
facing and how will you work to fix them if re-elected to the Senate?
AM:
My platform is not heavy in policy because as a single Senator I don't
feel like it is my job to try to force my positions on the region, only
to be a voice to the conversation. Thinking over the issues facing the
region. Like I stated earlier the Economy should be number one we need
to figure out our path related to that sector of the region. We have
businesses and organizations that have been inactive for month that is a
real problem. I think the second biggest problem is increasing the
number of active members we have on the forum. I am working on creating a
bill that would mandate that every new forum registration is welcomed
with a unique welcome message from a member of the region. As well as
creating a functional buddy system for our new members. These simple
steps can made a world of difference. Lastly, I think we need to start
considering a forum reduction policy our current layout is pretty
expansive and some forums overlap in what they are created for. I know
you only wanted three, but the fourth issue is States. We need to figure
out to make them matter again, because currently they are almost a
waste of space.
LnD: 11. As an Independent Senator right now, how
do you feel about the Republican Majority. Do you think it will last,
do you find it easy to work in this majority?
AM: I don't see
much of a difference when the majorities change. I which we could make
our parties matter as well without causing gridlock. That will be
another topic I will try to make progress on in my upcoming term if I am
given another chance to represent the region in the Senate.
LnD: 12. Lastly, do you have anything you want the people to know, any message that you think they need to hear?
AM:
Thank you again for taking the time to speak with me and asking great
questions about the region, if I could just say one more thing. To the
people of this great region if you have questions, concerns, comments or
suggestions I am only a message away either here or on discord.
Compromise is not a dirty word to me, let's figure out our problems and
get to work! Thank you.
That was a great interview from Arbor Mists and I'm glad that he was able to give it. And Thanks for reading.
Interview with Pepe Drakan

I'm
here with another interview, this time with Pepe Drakan about his
Chancellery and his re-election campaign, and the future. Please enjoy.
LnD: 1. To start off Mr. Chancellor, how do you think the region has done so far under your administration?
PD:
Well Lewis, I do believe the region has made progress so far under my
administration. We have set the seeds for a merger, re-intitiated
foreign relations with our allies through state visits planed throughout
the upcoming weeks with regions such as New Warsaw Pact, UK, and
Europeia, increased recruitment efforts towards reaching 500 nations,
and began work on cultural projects such as GovSim, the University,
Allied Online, and other role-play events. There is without a question, a
lot yet to be accomplished; however we have made tremendous progress
towards reaching such goals under the my administration, for which I am
very proud of.
LnD: 2. You know the General Election registration will be starting soon, will we see you run for re-election?
PD:
Yes, the General Elections are a little over a week away from starting.
I do have the intentions to run for re-election. When I ran in
September, I ran with the intention of accomplishing true progress for
the region, progress that can't necessarily be accomplished in just one
month. Progress such as increasing our NS Nation count, securing our
foreign relations, re-vamping our roleplays, culture, and economy; all
such progress will take more than just one month to accomplish, for
which I do have the intentions to run for a full 2 month term.
LnD: 3. What would you say your biggest achievement has been so far? Your biggest downfall?
PD:
It is really tough to say, as I consider any progress towards going our
region as tremendously important. I will have to say, negotiating the
foundation for the merger between The Allied States and The Great
American Union has to be one of my proudest achievements. As for my
biggest downfall, I will have to go with the initial inactivity during
my administration. While I was working on a real-life community service
event, along with a college trip and my surgery; I still don't consider
it an excuse for that activity issue. Due to this, I made sure to pick
up the activity of my administration since the moment I woke up from
surgery. I sent out 5,000 stamps, negotiated a couple of state visits,
and overall progressed my agenda of growing the region every step of the
way while I've been recovering from my gingivectomy and gingivoplasty
procedure.
LnD: 4. How will you improve upon your administration in the next term if your re-elected?
PD:
If re-elected, I plan on improving my administration by increasing the
outreach towards listening to the opinions of everyone in the region. As
Chancellor, I represent the region, including those who didn't vote for
me initially. I want to hear their opinions through town halls, and
open cabinet meetings. I also want to increase work towards increasing
emphasis on our roleplays and culture in general. Activity rises when we
are having fun, which I something I want to ensure we are having.
LnD:
5. You had a competitive run for election in September, do you think
that in the General it will be competitive again or do you think that it
will be less so?
PD: I think every election is competitive.
While I was blessed to have an essential landslide victory, the campaign
season prior to polls open was one of the most competitive I've ever
been in. I am sure, October will be no different, no matter the number
of candidates that run or the results of the polls.
LnD: 6. What is going to be your biggest goal in the term term if your re-elected?
PD:
My goal if re-elected has to be both reaching 500 nations, something my
administration and I have worked tirelessly to. Just in the past
weekend, I've recruited nearly 30 new nations, so my dedication to this
goal is still strong, if not stronger than ever. However, I will admit,
my biggest goal if re-elected is ensuring that when people login to the
forums, they have something to look forward to. As Chancellor, that is
my job and I won't stop working tirelessly until we do so.
LnD:
7. You said how getting to 500 nations is one of your main goals, but as
we know from experience it is hard to keep them as they frequently
Cease to exist and don't come on the forums. How will you work to make
sure that this 500 nations will contribute more than just a number?
PD:
I do agree, it's a very tough job to get nations from NationStates to
our forum to contribute however it's a job that as an administration I
do every day. Through increasing communications and continual updates in
regards to forum events, using discord as a midpoint between the two
zones to increase user confidence and comfortness with the region, and
an active Regional Message Board; we can definitely increase our
turnover rate. Also, through the oversight of the Foriegn Affairs
Department, the brand new buddy system shall also aid in this effort.
LnD:
8. What do you think the biggest three issues are in the region at the
moment and how do you intend to fix them if re-elected or during the
rest of your term?
PD: I believe that the three biggest issues in
the region currently is the turnover rate from NS to TAS, interest
levels in regards to forum activity, and unity under a common banner.
The issue with turnover rate I just spoke about. Through emphasis on
cultural events, role plays (such as GovSim and SMRP), the university,
and other interest-generator institutions, my administration will use
such institutions to increase the interest levels of our citizens
towards forum activity. As for unity, I'm not necessarily speaking unity
in relations to institution division, such as the type of division we
had post-merger. The unity I'm speaking about is the coming together,
under one goal or interest to reach said goal. This is a much harder
issue to solve, but it can be done through communications. I've always
seen value in reaching out to others, and I will do so as Chancellor to
bring that unity towards common goals such as recruitment for example.
LnD:
9. The economy is still a hot topic, and its future is still up in the
air. we know you want the people to decide the fate of the economy
through referendum, but if they decide to keep it what will you do to
improve the economy?
PD: The overall consensus is that we need
activity, in particular things to buy in the economy. I believe an
emphasis on incentives and SMRP revitalization will fill in that gap for
activity and need. You said it best, I want the people to decide the
fate of the economy. As one of the most successful businessmen in the
region, I know that a consumer driven economy is what's best for an
active economy; which I why I have been adamant of holding this
referendum.
LnD: 10. A big part of enacting reforms and such
things is through legislation. And a relationship exists from the
Executive and the Senate. What would you like to see in this
relationship, how will you handle the Senate?
PD: One thing prior
to my Chancellor term which I purposely did, was serve in the Senate
both as a Senator and Speaker in the months directly prior to my
election. I have had a tremendous experience as Speaker, crafting my
legislative experience and relationship with the Senate. In the
relationship between the Executive and the Senate, I would like to see
all of us; come to the table and work together for the progression of
the region. I will also handle the Senate as a partner towards making
such progression, which is why I've been so willingly to reach out to
Senators and compromise when neccsiated.
LnD: 11. States are an
important part of our region, and the merge with the Great American
Union has the creation of a new state. What will you do to help ensure
active and prospering states?
PD: History has always proven, that
light-hearted competition between the states is what drives prosperity
and activity in said states. In old TAS, the original state system was a
competition over political ideologies. Last year in the post-merger TAS
system, said competition was over being the high standard of the
region. I see it no different today, for which I will encourage
competition through SMRP, recruitment, and encouragement. However, I
will do my job, as the elected leader of the region, to ensure that
competition doesn't turn into chaos and disdain.
LnD: 12. And Finally is there anything else you would like to point out to the people, anything else that you would like to do?
PD:
There is always something I want to be doing, through the mandate of
the electorate. I recently just re-instated the university, made a
speech in regards to regional unity, negotiated a merger, and planned
three state visits; two in which will be regions visiting our region. I
want to continue the great progress we have made thus far. My campaign
was so focused on recruitment, in fact I am about to recruit my 200th
nation to The Allied States since I started using a new telegram 54 days
ago. I want to accomplish the tremendous and comprehensive goals that
I've set through my platform. Most importantly, I want to work towards
bringing our region closer together, under one banner as The Allied
States.
Another great interview. I'm glad that Pepe was able to give it and give a good one. Thanks for reading
Remembering Obi

After
some thought Obito Drakan left the region on September 22, 2016, and we
have no clue if he will ever return. His leaving has hit many of us
hard, and has left a hole in this region. To many of us, Obito was
friend, a good friend. And like any good friend it hard to watch them
go. Even if hope remains, you want to not need it. You want them to be
there forever.
Obi has done a lot for this region, and has made
big impacts upon it. He was Chancellor, Chancellor Pro-tempore, Vice
Chancellor, Senator, Speaker, Governor, Prime Executor, President, Vice
President, Delegate, Attorney General, Secretary of the Interior,
Treasury, Defense, State, and a Supreme Court Justice. Obi is one of the
few people who, like me, have held almost every office. It speaks
volumes that Obito was around for over three years, going on four.
I
think that there is not a single person in this region who Obi has not
impacted, for better or for worse, he has left a mark on us all. Looking
around and being in the region I feel a hole. I can feel the gap that
he left. It is a silence, I did not want to know, but I have. Obito
leaves us, and many others have. Libertarian Washington another good
soul, Mytzonia who only just recently left as well, and so many others.
When they leave a bit us leaves with them, a hole is made. A hole that
is never truly gone, but tolerated.
As Jet said in Cowboy Bebop
"Everything has a beginning and an end. Life is just a cycle of starts
and stops. There are ends we don’t desire, but they’re inevitable, we
have to face them. It’s what being human is all about." And indeed this
is an end that we didn't desire, but ah it is also a new beginning.
"There's no such things as an absolute and final ending, for it is
always followed by a new beginning." (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
Indeed while it is sad, so much so, that Obi left. We must continue on.
Though we must remember what he was-fun, entertaining, at times heated,
smart, diligent, hardworking, and so much more. It all came together to
make a human, whom was our dear friend. We must keep him in our memory.
The
Regional University chose its motto to be Amicitiae Nostrae Memoriam
Spero Sempiternam Fore. It is a quote by the famed Cicero meaning - I
hope that the memory of our friendship will be everlasting. Indeed that
is what I hope for, that is what I want. As Obi leaves us, let us
remember that our friendship with him has not ended, but endures both in
memory and in forever. For true friendship is forever.
And maybe one day, Obi will return to us. And that day will be one of fun and excitement.

Re:Life
My
Anime club watched the first episode of this back in August, but we
never continued to my disappointment, but maybe that is for the best
since opinions are easily jaded in such an environment.
The Story
is about Arata Kaizaki a 27 year old, kind of a NEET, helpless person.
He quit his job after three months and has yet to be able to find
another one. He works part time in a convenience store and can't find a
new job. But that is about to change when he is approached by Yoake Ryou
of the ReLife Research Institute. He wants Kaizaki to become a test
subject. He would looked like he's 17 again and go to high school school
for a year. In exchange he would have all his living expenses covered.
Thus does Kaizaki begin his high school life again.
The story
is pretty good. It is new, in many ways and original and I really like
that. It is a great twist on the classic high school slice of life
anime. I also think that the story brings new value to me, since I've
graduated high school. I'm not 27 and not in the same situation as
Kaizaki but at the same time it is bit relate able as he goes back to
high school to relive, to have a re:life. And besides that it was a good
one.
The characters are also pretty good. I really like them.
They really help to flesh out this story and make it more. Some good
characters. There is also a bit of character development for a lot of
the characters so that helps.
The art was fairly good, no complaints.
Music was good.
The voice acting for the sub, very good. No complaints the voices matched up quite well.
The
ending, left me wanting so much more. So much. It was an alright
ending, besides a few points. But it just left me wanting so much more
that it is hard to think of it as an ending per se and more of a end to
begin a second season. Not so much a cliff hanger as it just left you
wanting more because it doesn't feel finished per se. I am really hoping
for a second season though, till then I might have to read what is left
of the on going manga.
Overall I really liked this anime, very
good, and I watched it in like three days, if that. Very good, very
good. I'm so hoping for a second season soon, because I'm dying to know
what happens next. I really enjoyed this show, very good. I recommend
it.

The Future of The Messenger and NRI

Over
this last week The Messenger Media Company has made a new logo!!! Oh
yeah and there was a survey asking people basically should The Messenger
Media Company's various outlets be continued or end, and also asking if
the company should extend into Radio. Another questions were feedback
on the company and what should be covered. Well the results are in, and
we will reveal them. With 8 people having taken the survey.
- 1."Do you want to see more issues of The Messenger." 50% (4p) said yes, 25% (2p) said no, 25% (2p) said I don't care.
- 2. "Do you want to see more Episodes of Messenger TV?" 50% (4p) said yes, 38% (3p) said no, and 13% (1p) said I don't care.
- 3. "Would you like to see anime reviewed on Messenger TV? " 13% (1p) said yes, 63% (5p) said no, 25% (2p) said I don't care.
- 4. "Would you like to see more of The Daily Messenger?" 63% (5p) said yes, 25% (2p) said no, 13% (1p) said I don't care.
-
5. "Please give any comments or feedback to help improve The Messenger,
The Daily Messenger, and Messenger TV in the future. " Three people
responded, one person with "N/A" and one person with "No," And another
replied with "¯\_(ツ)_/¯"
- 6. "Would you like to see Messenger Radio?" 50% (4p) said yes, 38% (3p) said no, and 13% (1p) said I don't care.
-
7. "What do you like to see covered?" Three people responded one person
with "Regional Politics and Elections," and another person responded
with "Nothing, your not interesting," and another with "News"
- 8.
"Do you think Lewis and Daniel will actually stick around and continue
NRI and The Messenger Media Company?" 38% (3p) said yes, 13% (1p) said
no, 38% (3p) said I don't know, and 13% (1p) said I don't care.
So
at looking at these responses we are able to get a lot and not at the
same time. First off these results are in many ways humbling, knowing
that The Messenger Media Company is "not interesting" is disheartening,
but also means that we as a company need to reach out and do better.
However at the same time, it would have helped if such respondent had
provided constructive criticism. It is good though that at least a
simple majority of respondents wanted to see The Messenger Media Company
and all of its current products continue but were also wanting more
products in the future.
So I can say that The Messenger will be
continued. Messenger TV will be continued, however anime will not be
reviewed on it for this region. That said I might still review anime on
it, or another YouTube channel of mine but I will not be trying to
market it much within the region, maybe just a wee bit. The Daily
Messenger will continue. Since no feedback was given on how to improve
these shows please expect them to continue just as they always have, but
also we will cover more regional issues, elections, and news.
Messenger
Radio, name to be finalized by the Department of Media Development,
will be coming to your speakers soon! One of the first shows to be
brought will be The Lewis and Daniel Show, name to be finalized by the
DMD. This show will be much like how Liberty Radio once was, meaning it
will be a bit serious, with lots of regional issues, Lewis and Daniel's
opinion on them, and from time to time a guest and debate. Other shows
may be coming later, but as for now that is all that The Messenger Media
Company has decided.
So that's all the info we got, and all the
stuff we could tell about it. Thank you for your continued support of
The Messenger Media Company and North Republic Industries.
Exclusive!!!
Lewis and Daniel Announces Chancellor Bid

Lewis
and Daniel, a man of many hats and offices from TAR President to
Speaker of the Senate to Associate Justice. He's held almost every
office in the region and now he told The Messenger first that he has
plans of running for Chancellor. This may come as a shock as he just
returned from retirement and hasn't made any commitments on if he would
stay or go. We were however able to get an exclusive interview with
Lewis, and he was interviewed by our top interviewer Daniel. Here's the
transcript -
Daniel: "So, Lewis, you just returned from
retirement that was about two months long and you've not showed any
signs of staying or going for that matter or anything. What's to say
that you won't leave as Chancellor again?"
Lewis: "Well Daniel,
as you may know I was a very dedicated member of this region, that
retirement was the longest and one of the only breaks I have taken from
the region since I first joined four years ago. It's true that I haven't
really made plans on staying or going, but rest assured if I am elected
Chancellor I will stay for the full duration of my term and be active
and give the amount of work needed to run it. But if I am not elected I
cannot make any such promises. I still expect some people to dismiss me or even campaign against me, but you know what I'm going to try and do the best that I can regardless."
Daniel: "I see, and just a standard question but what makes you qualified for this position?"
Lewis:
"Well I am one of the most experienced members of the region. I've held
almost every job. Speaker, Speaker Pro-tempore, President, Secretary of
Interior and when it was called State as well, Secretary of Defense and
Treasury. I've been Attorney General, Associate Justice, Senator,
Emperor of The Holy Britannian Empire, Director of the Law Program,
Chancellor of the Otaku Party. I'm also an author, you might have read
some of my works like "A Paper on the Cults of the Republic," or "A
Treatise on How to be a Lawyer." Not to mention I've written dozens of
laws, and so much more. I know what it takes not only to be Chancellor
and run the region but I know how to run the cabinet, and much more."
Daniel: "Very impressive, Thank you. Now do you think you are a little out of touch since you've been away?"
Lewis:
"Sure, but we are still plagued by some of the same issues--The economy
is one of the big ones. My administration will make the economy a key
focus point. I've been apart of the economy here for almost four years,
and I know that we need to get it running because it adds so much to
this region when it works. Another one which I am sure is still here is
apathy, there is a large portion of the population that just doesn't
care about anything, and won't help and only hurt the region by not
fully participating in it."
Daniel: "I see. Well Lewis, do you have a platform ready?"
Lewis:
"Know that I am working on a platform and I do hope to show case it
soon. It will be a platform of plans, ideas, and stances. A platform
that will launch us into a new dawn for the region. We will leave the
night, and walk into a new day. A better day."
Daniel: "I think that sums it up for this interview, thanks for your time Lewis."
Lewis: "It's been a pleasure Daniel."
There
you go folks. Who knows if his campaign will be successful, surely
crazier things have happened in the region before. We will just have to
stay tuned.
Chancellor Zachary Drakan Resigns After Poor Approval Rating

Aid to Chancellor Drakan (Left) and Chancellor Zachary Drakan (Right) and Bow in Apology
On
August 18th, 2016 Evolve Media released its findings in an approval
poll on Chancellor Zachary Drakan. The results were some of the lowest
approval ratings for a Chancellor in a long time. Chancellor Drakan
received only 21% Approval and 42% Disapproval, with 32% being undecided
(5% had no opinion at all). 19 People were polled, which is just about
half of number who voted in the most recent general election. So a
considerable portion of the region did participate in the poll.
As
a result of his dismal approval rating and wanting a more active
Chancellor, Chancellor Drakan resigned on August 21st, 2016. Originally
Chancellor Drakan was going to stay in office and work to become a
better Chancellor, but changed his mind when he realized he couldn't
dedicate the time needed to be a successful Chancellor. With his
resignation Vice Chancellor Obito Drakan assumed the office of
Chancellor, and then proceeded to fire the entire cabinet and has so far
failed to form a new cabinet. He did have a one day Vice Chancellor in
Kastros who he fired the next day. JD Drakan was also appointed Coast
Guard Commander.
Chancellor Obito Drakan however has
re-instituted, revised, a famous Executive Order first issued by TAR
President Lewis and Daniel. The new version states that "In my kingdom
all servants will be required to wear TINY MINISKIRTS!!" The crowd
cheered hard and long when those words were uttered.
It is
unknown how successful Chancellor Obito Drakan will be, we will just
have to watch and see. However this has not stopped Chancellor Obito
Drakan from already proclaiming himself the best Chancellor that the
region has ever had.

The Boy and The Beast
Also
known as Bakemono no Ko; Mamoru Hosoda comes out with his latest work.
If you don't know Hosoda he also the director of Wolf Children, A Girl
Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, and various other works.
The
Story is about a boy named Ren, who's mother has just died, and his
father is no where to be found. Not wanting to go leave with his distant
relatives, Ren runs away from home. During this he encounters
Kumatetsu, a beast, who accepts him as his appreciate and he renames Ren
to Kyuuta. And they return to the world of the Beast. This summary does
not give it justice. If I had to compare it with another movie, it is a
bit similar to say Spirited Away, but each are deistic and unique in
their own right.
The Story is amazing! I have heard some
complaints though that they try to hard at certain points to force
symbolism, and try to make the movie seem deeper or smarter than it
actually is. I think that has some credit to it, but for me at least I
didn't notice this when I watched it, and I don't really care. There is a
point in the movie about 2/3rds of the way in where it starts to take a
turn and it does shift you a bit, but for the most part it straightens
out.
The Characters, I think that this is perhaps the strongest
point of the movie. The characters. Especially Kumatetsu and Kyuuta, not
only are they great characters their relationship throughout the film
is amazing to watch and see them grow as teacher and student, and in
many aspects. However good characters and relationships do not stop
there, many other characters also are really good, and seeing the
relationships between them and others is great.
The art was
really well done, probably the best art in a Hosoda movie yet. And
already he had good art and his own style, though I don't think that is
because he drew it. One can tell the almost Ghibli influence.
The music was really well done.
The
voice acting for the sub was really well done. I have not watched the
dubbed version yet, so I have no clue of its quality, but just skimming
over the English Voice Actors and they picked some top of the line ones.
So I think that the version should be rather good.
The ending
is bittersweet in a number of ways. It left me satisfied but longing for
more, and different outcome. However I can't say that the ending is bad
or wrong. Overall I was ok with it.
Overall this was an amazing
movie, and will become one of my favorites. Right after I watched it, I
knew that I had to go out and buy it on Blu Ray, or rather at the time
DVD. I will discuss Blu Ray another time. And indeed when it came out I
did buy it. This is Hosoda's best film to date, and I already liked his
other works. But I will be surprised if he can top this one, and I will
look forward to his future works.

Yesterday (1991), directed by Isao Takahata, is one of the Studio
Ghibli movies that has never gotten an American release and one that I
have really been wanting to watch. Lucky for me The Gateway Film Center
showed it and I was able to watch it!
The Story is about Taeko
Okajima who lives in the city but loves to take trips to the country
side to help work in the fields. This time she plans on doing just that
and right before she goes she starts to remember all about her 5th Grade
self. So not only take a trip out to the country, but also one down
memory lane.
The Story is very well done. It is very human, and
very good. I think that it will really speak to adults more than any
children, though I think children will still enjoy this work. I think
that it is very relate-able , and very real. I thought it was really
well done, not just in how it feels but also in the content.
The
Characters, are well done they have depth and meaning, relationships and
feelings. The characters are well done and I think help to make this
story better and overall better.
The art, it is older but still
really well done, I had no complaints about it overall. There is also a
bit of a difference in art styles when the movie jumps between time
periods, which I think help to enhance the setting and time and feel.
The Music was well done, no complaints.
The
Voice Acting was also well done for the English version. One possible
complaint might be the lead male character's voice (sorry can't remember
or find name) which had a bit of a British accent if I remember right,
so it is a bit off putting but I think you soon grow used to it and
overall it doesn't subtract too much from the overall immersion. I
haven't seen the subbed version so no clue about the voice acting there.
I
really liked the Ending, it was satisfying and really good. I will say
though if you don't already know - STAY DURING THE CREDITS.
Overall
this becomes one of my favorite Studio Ghibli movie (I mean almost all
Studio Ghibli movies are amazing), and easily my favorite film from
Director Isao, who I've not always been a huge fan of in the past. I
really want to buy this on blu ray and will some day soon I hope. I
highly recommend watching it.
