Interview with Arbor Mists
Hello! I am joined with Arbor Mists to talk about his Senate race mainly. So please enjoy.
LnD: 1. So why are you running for re-election?
AM:
Great question, I believe that as long as you have a drive to serve the
people you should at least try. We have major policy decisions coming
up in the next term, from the economy to how we will ensure that the
Allied States becomes a major force within Nation States. I believe that
all starts here in the Senate, and I hope with the support of other I
get a chance to be apart of the decision making process.
LnD: 2. Do you feel that you've succeeded as a Senator and added to the region and the Senate?
AM:
I don't know if I would use the word succeeded. Active the word I would
lean on more. It has been a positive experience for me being one of the
most active Senators this term, granted a majority of my ideas didn't
make the finish line. That isn't the point of it all though, it is about
putting our ideas out there, and I feel like I still have many more
bills to offer. The one bill I do enjoy the most that passed was The
Friends with Benefits that allows the government to create a member of
the week system, supporting activity is a very important matter to me.
Another bill that was close, but ended up becoming law was the Senate
Reduction Act, a bill that reduced titles and ensured real elections. As
most know I was one of five Senators that didn't get voted into office.
There was five positions open, and five members running. We can't have
that again. I think that bill is the most impactful measure to pass in a
while.
LnD: 3. How do you hope to improve if elected? What's your next major goal?
AM:
I hope to keep learning from veteran members, and pass a lot more
meaning bills in the Senate. The Senate is a place I would like to call
home for the distant future, but that comes with compromise and a reason
to leader. My next task is to create a body that will ensure all great
ideas become a reality within the region, that is up for debate right
now. We need a not only pass bills, but ensure they are followed
through.
LnD: 4. You've started to campaign early, is this because you think this upcoming election is going to be very competitive?
AM:
Two reasons, first I recently step down as Speaker due to some real
life issues I didn't want my fellow members to take that as a sign of
losing commitment or drive to be a part of the region. Second is because
of a bill that I helped passed, the Senate Reduction Act will make this
election very competitive and I want citizens to have as much access to
me until election day as possible.
LnD: 5. You've stated that
the economy is going to be a very important issue, and indeed it is. I
was wondering what's your take on it, what's your plan, your 2 cents.
AM:
The economy is a touchy subject, personally I think we can make a
function economy but that will take realistic ideas and a team to ensure
it's functionality. We have a choice moving forward we can either kill
it or make it roar. As Senator I will respect the will of the people,
and if we agree to keep the economy I plan to use my time creating plans
and programs that ensure that is works for the entire forum and every
member.
LnD: 6. We know you resigned as speaker this term, but if re-elected would you seek the office again?
AM:
Of course I would love a chance to be Speaker again, but I don't plan
on seeking the office for a while. The region can't afford a part time
Speaker, I want to ensure that I can provide my full focus to the job
before asking for the people for the opportunity again.
LnD: 7.
So we've made the Senate smaller already, do you think that the Senate,
and specifically you might look again in the coming term to make it even
smaller?
AM: I think the reduction we made should be fine for
our government to function for the time being, of course if we see a
spike in members or a slide in members we can review it again later.
LnD:
8. You've already received quite a number of endorsements from
Chancellor Pepe Drakan to Chief Justice JD Drakan, do you think that you
have this election in the bag? Are you feeling confident?
AM: It
is an honor to get those endorsements, but I don't take that as a sure
thing. The thing about politics is that is as fickle as the wind, I feel
I have a decent chance, but it would be foolish for me to be confident
when it comes to what the voters want or expect in any race.
LnD:
9. I've seen a lot of people over my days, and a lot of Senators. What
makes you special, what do you do in the senate that no one else does,
how do you contribute in a unique way?
AM: I am not sure if there
is anything truly special about me as a Senator. However, I have shown
that I am committed and willing to ensure that the Senate is active. If
there is something unique I bring to the table, it would be that I try
to make sure that my bills are outside of the normal debates found in
the chambers. That being said everyone of my fellow Senators are amazing
and I am lucky to be able to be a part of the conversation.
LnD:
10. You haven't made a huge platform with a lot of points and
positions, so what do you think are the top three issues the region is
facing and how will you work to fix them if re-elected to the Senate?
AM:
My platform is not heavy in policy because as a single Senator I don't
feel like it is my job to try to force my positions on the region, only
to be a voice to the conversation. Thinking over the issues facing the
region. Like I stated earlier the Economy should be number one we need
to figure out our path related to that sector of the region. We have
businesses and organizations that have been inactive for month that is a
real problem. I think the second biggest problem is increasing the
number of active members we have on the forum. I am working on creating a
bill that would mandate that every new forum registration is welcomed
with a unique welcome message from a member of the region. As well as
creating a functional buddy system for our new members. These simple
steps can made a world of difference. Lastly, I think we need to start
considering a forum reduction policy our current layout is pretty
expansive and some forums overlap in what they are created for. I know
you only wanted three, but the fourth issue is States. We need to figure
out to make them matter again, because currently they are almost a
waste of space.
LnD: 11. As an Independent Senator right now, how
do you feel about the Republican Majority. Do you think it will last,
do you find it easy to work in this majority?
AM: I don't see
much of a difference when the majorities change. I which we could make
our parties matter as well without causing gridlock. That will be
another topic I will try to make progress on in my upcoming term if I am
given another chance to represent the region in the Senate.
LnD: 12. Lastly, do you have anything you want the people to know, any message that you think they need to hear?
AM:
Thank you again for taking the time to speak with me and asking great
questions about the region, if I could just say one more thing. To the
people of this great region if you have questions, concerns, comments or
suggestions I am only a message away either here or on discord.
Compromise is not a dirty word to me, let's figure out our problems and
get to work! Thank you.
That was a great interview from Arbor Mists and I'm glad that he was able to give it. And Thanks for reading.
Interview with Pepe Drakan
I'm
here with another interview, this time with Pepe Drakan about his
Chancellery and his re-election campaign, and the future. Please enjoy.
LnD: 1. To start off Mr. Chancellor, how do you think the region has done so far under your administration?
PD:
Well Lewis, I do believe the region has made progress so far under my
administration. We have set the seeds for a merger, re-intitiated
foreign relations with our allies through state visits planed throughout
the upcoming weeks with regions such as New Warsaw Pact, UK, and
Europeia, increased recruitment efforts towards reaching 500 nations,
and began work on cultural projects such as GovSim, the University,
Allied Online, and other role-play events. There is without a question, a
lot yet to be accomplished; however we have made tremendous progress
towards reaching such goals under the my administration, for which I am
very proud of.
LnD: 2. You know the General Election registration will be starting soon, will we see you run for re-election?
PD:
Yes, the General Elections are a little over a week away from starting.
I do have the intentions to run for re-election. When I ran in
September, I ran with the intention of accomplishing true progress for
the region, progress that can't necessarily be accomplished in just one
month. Progress such as increasing our NS Nation count, securing our
foreign relations, re-vamping our roleplays, culture, and economy; all
such progress will take more than just one month to accomplish, for
which I do have the intentions to run for a full 2 month term.
LnD: 3. What would you say your biggest achievement has been so far? Your biggest downfall?
PD:
It is really tough to say, as I consider any progress towards going our
region as tremendously important. I will have to say, negotiating the
foundation for the merger between The Allied States and The Great
American Union has to be one of my proudest achievements. As for my
biggest downfall, I will have to go with the initial inactivity during
my administration. While I was working on a real-life community service
event, along with a college trip and my surgery; I still don't consider
it an excuse for that activity issue. Due to this, I made sure to pick
up the activity of my administration since the moment I woke up from
surgery. I sent out 5,000 stamps, negotiated a couple of state visits,
and overall progressed my agenda of growing the region every step of the
way while I've been recovering from my gingivectomy and gingivoplasty
procedure.
LnD: 4. How will you improve upon your administration in the next term if your re-elected?
PD:
If re-elected, I plan on improving my administration by increasing the
outreach towards listening to the opinions of everyone in the region. As
Chancellor, I represent the region, including those who didn't vote for
me initially. I want to hear their opinions through town halls, and
open cabinet meetings. I also want to increase work towards increasing
emphasis on our roleplays and culture in general. Activity rises when we
are having fun, which I something I want to ensure we are having.
LnD:
5. You had a competitive run for election in September, do you think
that in the General it will be competitive again or do you think that it
will be less so?
PD: I think every election is competitive.
While I was blessed to have an essential landslide victory, the campaign
season prior to polls open was one of the most competitive I've ever
been in. I am sure, October will be no different, no matter the number
of candidates that run or the results of the polls.
LnD: 6. What is going to be your biggest goal in the term term if your re-elected?
PD:
My goal if re-elected has to be both reaching 500 nations, something my
administration and I have worked tirelessly to. Just in the past
weekend, I've recruited nearly 30 new nations, so my dedication to this
goal is still strong, if not stronger than ever. However, I will admit,
my biggest goal if re-elected is ensuring that when people login to the
forums, they have something to look forward to. As Chancellor, that is
my job and I won't stop working tirelessly until we do so.
LnD:
7. You said how getting to 500 nations is one of your main goals, but as
we know from experience it is hard to keep them as they frequently
Cease to exist and don't come on the forums. How will you work to make
sure that this 500 nations will contribute more than just a number?
PD:
I do agree, it's a very tough job to get nations from NationStates to
our forum to contribute however it's a job that as an administration I
do every day. Through increasing communications and continual updates in
regards to forum events, using discord as a midpoint between the two
zones to increase user confidence and comfortness with the region, and
an active Regional Message Board; we can definitely increase our
turnover rate. Also, through the oversight of the Foriegn Affairs
Department, the brand new buddy system shall also aid in this effort.
LnD:
8. What do you think the biggest three issues are in the region at the
moment and how do you intend to fix them if re-elected or during the
rest of your term?
PD: I believe that the three biggest issues in
the region currently is the turnover rate from NS to TAS, interest
levels in regards to forum activity, and unity under a common banner.
The issue with turnover rate I just spoke about. Through emphasis on
cultural events, role plays (such as GovSim and SMRP), the university,
and other interest-generator institutions, my administration will use
such institutions to increase the interest levels of our citizens
towards forum activity. As for unity, I'm not necessarily speaking unity
in relations to institution division, such as the type of division we
had post-merger. The unity I'm speaking about is the coming together,
under one goal or interest to reach said goal. This is a much harder
issue to solve, but it can be done through communications. I've always
seen value in reaching out to others, and I will do so as Chancellor to
bring that unity towards common goals such as recruitment for example.
LnD:
9. The economy is still a hot topic, and its future is still up in the
air. we know you want the people to decide the fate of the economy
through referendum, but if they decide to keep it what will you do to
improve the economy?
PD: The overall consensus is that we need
activity, in particular things to buy in the economy. I believe an
emphasis on incentives and SMRP revitalization will fill in that gap for
activity and need. You said it best, I want the people to decide the
fate of the economy. As one of the most successful businessmen in the
region, I know that a consumer driven economy is what's best for an
active economy; which I why I have been adamant of holding this
referendum.
LnD: 10. A big part of enacting reforms and such
things is through legislation. And a relationship exists from the
Executive and the Senate. What would you like to see in this
relationship, how will you handle the Senate?
PD: One thing prior
to my Chancellor term which I purposely did, was serve in the Senate
both as a Senator and Speaker in the months directly prior to my
election. I have had a tremendous experience as Speaker, crafting my
legislative experience and relationship with the Senate. In the
relationship between the Executive and the Senate, I would like to see
all of us; come to the table and work together for the progression of
the region. I will also handle the Senate as a partner towards making
such progression, which is why I've been so willingly to reach out to
Senators and compromise when neccsiated.
LnD: 11. States are an
important part of our region, and the merge with the Great American
Union has the creation of a new state. What will you do to help ensure
active and prospering states?
PD: History has always proven, that
light-hearted competition between the states is what drives prosperity
and activity in said states. In old TAS, the original state system was a
competition over political ideologies. Last year in the post-merger TAS
system, said competition was over being the high standard of the
region. I see it no different today, for which I will encourage
competition through SMRP, recruitment, and encouragement. However, I
will do my job, as the elected leader of the region, to ensure that
competition doesn't turn into chaos and disdain.
LnD: 12. And Finally is there anything else you would like to point out to the people, anything else that you would like to do?
PD:
There is always something I want to be doing, through the mandate of
the electorate. I recently just re-instated the university, made a
speech in regards to regional unity, negotiated a merger, and planned
three state visits; two in which will be regions visiting our region. I
want to continue the great progress we have made thus far. My campaign
was so focused on recruitment, in fact I am about to recruit my 200th
nation to The Allied States since I started using a new telegram 54 days
ago. I want to accomplish the tremendous and comprehensive goals that
I've set through my platform. Most importantly, I want to work towards
bringing our region closer together, under one banner as The Allied
States.
Another great interview. I'm glad that Pepe was able to give it and give a good one. Thanks for reading
Remembering Obi
After
some thought Obito Drakan left the region on September 22, 2016, and we
have no clue if he will ever return. His leaving has hit many of us
hard, and has left a hole in this region. To many of us, Obito was
friend, a good friend. And like any good friend it hard to watch them
go. Even if hope remains, you want to not need it. You want them to be
there forever.
Obi has done a lot for this region, and has made
big impacts upon it. He was Chancellor, Chancellor Pro-tempore, Vice
Chancellor, Senator, Speaker, Governor, Prime Executor, President, Vice
President, Delegate, Attorney General, Secretary of the Interior,
Treasury, Defense, State, and a Supreme Court Justice. Obi is one of the
few people who, like me, have held almost every office. It speaks
volumes that Obito was around for over three years, going on four.
I
think that there is not a single person in this region who Obi has not
impacted, for better or for worse, he has left a mark on us all. Looking
around and being in the region I feel a hole. I can feel the gap that
he left. It is a silence, I did not want to know, but I have. Obito
leaves us, and many others have. Libertarian Washington another good
soul, Mytzonia who only just recently left as well, and so many others.
When they leave a bit us leaves with them, a hole is made. A hole that
is never truly gone, but tolerated.
As Jet said in Cowboy Bebop
"Everything has a beginning and an end. Life is just a cycle of starts
and stops. There are ends we don’t desire, but they’re inevitable, we
have to face them. It’s what being human is all about." And indeed this
is an end that we didn't desire, but ah it is also a new beginning.
"There's no such things as an absolute and final ending, for it is
always followed by a new beginning." (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
Indeed while it is sad, so much so, that Obi left. We must continue on.
Though we must remember what he was-fun, entertaining, at times heated,
smart, diligent, hardworking, and so much more. It all came together to
make a human, whom was our dear friend. We must keep him in our memory.
The
Regional University chose its motto to be Amicitiae Nostrae Memoriam
Spero Sempiternam Fore. It is a quote by the famed Cicero meaning - I
hope that the memory of our friendship will be everlasting. Indeed that
is what I hope for, that is what I want. As Obi leaves us, let us
remember that our friendship with him has not ended, but endures both in
memory and in forever. For true friendship is forever.
And maybe one day, Obi will return to us. And that day will be one of fun and excitement.

Re:Life
My
Anime club watched the first episode of this back in August, but we
never continued to my disappointment, but maybe that is for the best
since opinions are easily jaded in such an environment.
The Story
is about Arata Kaizaki a 27 year old, kind of a NEET, helpless person.
He quit his job after three months and has yet to be able to find
another one. He works part time in a convenience store and can't find a
new job. But that is about to change when he is approached by Yoake Ryou
of the ReLife Research Institute. He wants Kaizaki to become a test
subject. He would looked like he's 17 again and go to high school school
for a year. In exchange he would have all his living expenses covered.
Thus does Kaizaki begin his high school life again.
The story
is pretty good. It is new, in many ways and original and I really like
that. It is a great twist on the classic high school slice of life
anime. I also think that the story brings new value to me, since I've
graduated high school. I'm not 27 and not in the same situation as
Kaizaki but at the same time it is bit relate able as he goes back to
high school to relive, to have a re:life. And besides that it was a good
one.
The characters are also pretty good. I really like them.
They really help to flesh out this story and make it more. Some good
characters. There is also a bit of character development for a lot of
the characters so that helps.
The art was fairly good, no complaints.
Music was good.
The voice acting for the sub, very good. No complaints the voices matched up quite well.
The
ending, left me wanting so much more. So much. It was an alright
ending, besides a few points. But it just left me wanting so much more
that it is hard to think of it as an ending per se and more of a end to
begin a second season. Not so much a cliff hanger as it just left you
wanting more because it doesn't feel finished per se. I am really hoping
for a second season though, till then I might have to read what is left
of the on going manga.
Overall I really liked this anime, very
good, and I watched it in like three days, if that. Very good, very
good. I'm so hoping for a second season soon, because I'm dying to know
what happens next. I really enjoyed this show, very good. I recommend
it.

The Future of The Messenger and NRI
Over this last week The Messenger Media Company has made a new logo!!! Oh yeah and there was a survey asking people basically should The Messenger Media Company's various outlets be continued or end, and also asking if the company should extend into Radio. Another questions were feedback on the company and what should be covered. Well the results are in, and we will reveal them. With 8 people having taken the survey.
- 1."Do you want to see more issues of The Messenger." 50% (4p) said yes, 25% (2p) said no, 25% (2p) said I don't care.
- 2. "Do you want to see more Episodes of Messenger TV?" 50% (4p) said yes, 38% (3p) said no, and 13% (1p) said I don't care.
- 3. "Would you like to see anime reviewed on Messenger TV? " 13% (1p) said yes, 63% (5p) said no, 25% (2p) said I don't care.
- 4. "Would you like to see more of The Daily Messenger?" 63% (5p) said yes, 25% (2p) said no, 13% (1p) said I don't care.
- 5. "Please give any comments or feedback to help improve The Messenger, The Daily Messenger, and Messenger TV in the future. " Three people responded, one person with "N/A" and one person with "No," And another replied with "¯\_(ツ)_/¯"
- 6. "Would you like to see Messenger Radio?" 50% (4p) said yes, 38% (3p) said no, and 13% (1p) said I don't care.
- 7. "What do you like to see covered?" Three people responded one person with "Regional Politics and Elections," and another person responded with "Nothing, your not interesting," and another with "News"
- 8. "Do you think Lewis and Daniel will actually stick around and continue NRI and The Messenger Media Company?" 38% (3p) said yes, 13% (1p) said no, 38% (3p) said I don't know, and 13% (1p) said I don't care.
So at looking at these responses we are able to get a lot and not at the same time. First off these results are in many ways humbling, knowing that The Messenger Media Company is "not interesting" is disheartening, but also means that we as a company need to reach out and do better. However at the same time, it would have helped if such respondent had provided constructive criticism. It is good though that at least a simple majority of respondents wanted to see The Messenger Media Company and all of its current products continue but were also wanting more products in the future.
So I can say that The Messenger will be continued. Messenger TV will be continued, however anime will not be reviewed on it for this region. That said I might still review anime on it, or another YouTube channel of mine but I will not be trying to market it much within the region, maybe just a wee bit. The Daily Messenger will continue. Since no feedback was given on how to improve these shows please expect them to continue just as they always have, but also we will cover more regional issues, elections, and news.
Messenger Radio, name to be finalized by the Department of Media Development, will be coming to your speakers soon! One of the first shows to be brought will be The Lewis and Daniel Show, name to be finalized by the DMD. This show will be much like how Liberty Radio once was, meaning it will be a bit serious, with lots of regional issues, Lewis and Daniel's opinion on them, and from time to time a guest and debate. Other shows may be coming later, but as for now that is all that The Messenger Media Company has decided.
So that's all the info we got, and all the stuff we could tell about it. Thank you for your continued support of The Messenger Media Company and North Republic Industries.
Exclusive!!!
Lewis and Daniel Announces Chancellor Bid
Lewis and Daniel, a man of many hats and offices from TAR President to Speaker of the Senate to Associate Justice. He's held almost every office in the region and now he told The Messenger first that he has plans of running for Chancellor. This may come as a shock as he just returned from retirement and hasn't made any commitments on if he would stay or go. We were however able to get an exclusive interview with Lewis, and he was interviewed by our top interviewer Daniel. Here's the transcript -
Daniel: "So, Lewis, you just returned from retirement that was about two months long and you've not showed any signs of staying or going for that matter or anything. What's to say that you won't leave as Chancellor again?"
Lewis: "Well Daniel, as you may know I was a very dedicated member of this region, that retirement was the longest and one of the only breaks I have taken from the region since I first joined four years ago. It's true that I haven't really made plans on staying or going, but rest assured if I am elected Chancellor I will stay for the full duration of my term and be active and give the amount of work needed to run it. But if I am not elected I cannot make any such promises. I still expect some people to dismiss me or even campaign against me, but you know what I'm going to try and do the best that I can regardless."
Daniel: "I see, and just a standard question but what makes you qualified for this position?"
Lewis: "Well I am one of the most experienced members of the region. I've held almost every job. Speaker, Speaker Pro-tempore, President, Secretary of Interior and when it was called State as well, Secretary of Defense and Treasury. I've been Attorney General, Associate Justice, Senator, Emperor of The Holy Britannian Empire, Director of the Law Program, Chancellor of the Otaku Party. I'm also an author, you might have read some of my works like "A Paper on the Cults of the Republic," or "A Treatise on How to be a Lawyer." Not to mention I've written dozens of laws, and so much more. I know what it takes not only to be Chancellor and run the region but I know how to run the cabinet, and much more."
Daniel: "Very impressive, Thank you. Now do you think you are a little out of touch since you've been away?"
Lewis: "Sure, but we are still plagued by some of the same issues--The economy is one of the big ones. My administration will make the economy a key focus point. I've been apart of the economy here for almost four years, and I know that we need to get it running because it adds so much to this region when it works. Another one which I am sure is still here is apathy, there is a large portion of the population that just doesn't care about anything, and won't help and only hurt the region by not fully participating in it."
Daniel: "I see. Well Lewis, do you have a platform ready?"
Lewis: "Know that I am working on a platform and I do hope to show case it soon. It will be a platform of plans, ideas, and stances. A platform that will launch us into a new dawn for the region. We will leave the night, and walk into a new day. A better day."
Daniel: "I think that sums it up for this interview, thanks for your time Lewis."
Lewis: "It's been a pleasure Daniel."
There you go folks. Who knows if his campaign will be successful, surely crazier things have happened in the region before. We will just have to stay tuned.
Chancellor Zachary Drakan Resigns After Poor Approval Rating
Aid to Chancellor Drakan (Left) and Chancellor Zachary Drakan (Right) and Bow in Apology
On August 18th, 2016 Evolve Media released its findings in an approval poll on Chancellor Zachary Drakan. The results were some of the lowest approval ratings for a Chancellor in a long time. Chancellor Drakan received only 21% Approval and 42% Disapproval, with 32% being undecided (5% had no opinion at all). 19 People were polled, which is just about half of number who voted in the most recent general election. So a considerable portion of the region did participate in the poll.
As a result of his dismal approval rating and wanting a more active Chancellor, Chancellor Drakan resigned on August 21st, 2016. Originally Chancellor Drakan was going to stay in office and work to become a better Chancellor, but changed his mind when he realized he couldn't dedicate the time needed to be a successful Chancellor. With his resignation Vice Chancellor Obito Drakan assumed the office of Chancellor, and then proceeded to fire the entire cabinet and has so far failed to form a new cabinet. He did have a one day Vice Chancellor in Kastros who he fired the next day. JD Drakan was also appointed Coast Guard Commander.
Chancellor Obito Drakan however has re-instituted, revised, a famous Executive Order first issued by TAR President Lewis and Daniel. The new version states that "In my kingdom all servants will be required to wear TINY MINISKIRTS!!" The crowd cheered hard and long when those words were uttered.
It is unknown how successful Chancellor Obito Drakan will be, we will just have to watch and see. However this has not stopped Chancellor Obito Drakan from already proclaiming himself the best Chancellor that the region has ever had.

The Boy and The Beast
Also known as Bakemono no Ko; Mamoru Hosoda comes out with his latest work. If you don't know Hosoda he also the director of Wolf Children, A Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, and various other works.
The Story is about a boy named Ren, who's mother has just died, and his father is no where to be found. Not wanting to go leave with his distant relatives, Ren runs away from home. During this he encounters Kumatetsu, a beast, who accepts him as his appreciate and he renames Ren to Kyuuta. And they return to the world of the Beast. This summary does not give it justice. If I had to compare it with another movie, it is a bit similar to say Spirited Away, but each are deistic and unique in their own right.
The Story is amazing! I have heard some complaints though that they try to hard at certain points to force symbolism, and try to make the movie seem deeper or smarter than it actually is. I think that has some credit to it, but for me at least I didn't notice this when I watched it, and I don't really care. There is a point in the movie about 2/3rds of the way in where it starts to take a turn and it does shift you a bit, but for the most part it straightens out.
The Characters, I think that this is perhaps the strongest point of the movie. The characters. Especially Kumatetsu and Kyuuta, not only are they great characters their relationship throughout the film is amazing to watch and see them grow as teacher and student, and in many aspects. However good characters and relationships do not stop there, many other characters also are really good, and seeing the relationships between them and others is great.
The art was really well done, probably the best art in a Hosoda movie yet. And already he had good art and his own style, though I don't think that is because he drew it. One can tell the almost Ghibli influence.
The music was really well done.
The voice acting for the sub was really well done. I have not watched the dubbed version yet, so I have no clue of its quality, but just skimming over the English Voice Actors and they picked some top of the line ones. So I think that the version should be rather good.
The ending is bittersweet in a number of ways. It left me satisfied but longing for more, and different outcome. However I can't say that the ending is bad or wrong. Overall I was ok with it.
Overall this was an amazing movie, and will become one of my favorites. Right after I watched it, I knew that I had to go out and buy it on Blu Ray, or rather at the time DVD. I will discuss Blu Ray another time. And indeed when it came out I did buy it. This is Hosoda's best film to date, and I already liked his other works. But I will be surprised if he can top this one, and I will look forward to his future works.
Only Yesterday
Only Yesterday (1991), directed by Isao Takahata, is one of the Studio Ghibli movies that has never gotten an American release and one that I have really been wanting to watch. Lucky for me The Gateway Film Center showed it and I was able to watch it!
The Story is about Taeko Okajima who lives in the city but loves to take trips to the country side to help work in the fields. This time she plans on doing just that and right before she goes she starts to remember all about her 5th Grade self. So not only take a trip out to the country, but also one down memory lane.
The Story is very well done. It is very human, and very good. I think that it will really speak to adults more than any children, though I think children will still enjoy this work. I think that it is very relate-able , and very real. I thought it was really well done, not just in how it feels but also in the content.
The Characters, are well done they have depth and meaning, relationships and feelings. The characters are well done and I think help to make this story better and overall better.
The art, it is older but still really well done, I had no complaints about it overall. There is also a bit of a difference in art styles when the movie jumps between time periods, which I think help to enhance the setting and time and feel.
The Music was well done, no complaints.
The Voice Acting was also well done for the English version. One possible complaint might be the lead male character's voice (sorry can't remember or find name) which had a bit of a British accent if I remember right, so it is a bit off putting but I think you soon grow used to it and overall it doesn't subtract too much from the overall immersion. I haven't seen the subbed version so no clue about the voice acting there.
I really liked the Ending, it was satisfying and really good. I will say though if you don't already know - STAY DURING THE CREDITS.
Overall this becomes one of my favorite Studio Ghibli movie (I mean almost all Studio Ghibli movies are amazing), and easily my favorite film from Director Isao, who I've not always been a huge fan of in the past. I really want to buy this on blu ray and will some day soon I hope. I highly recommend watching it.

40th Issue!!! Biggest Milestone Yet!
An amazing achievement for The Messenger to achieve 40 issues. No other newspaper or media source has reached this number through its primary punishment. The Messenger was first established in 2011 in The United Kingdom (TUK) as The British Messenger where it moved later to the United Kingdom of Great Britain (~UKB). There may have even been The Danish Messenger but Lewis and Daniel can't remember. In 2012 on July 25th Lewis and Daniel launched The Messenger in The Allied Republics and it meet with considerable success so much that North Republic Industries was soon founded and organized to be over The Messenger.
The Messenger then continued and in its early days it was a rival to the Allied Republican a popular newspaper that was published by CCC, and was the first paper to reach 30 issues. The Messenger also was in part a rival with The Patriot a newspaper published by the Republic News Company. Together for a while these three papers where the Big Three in the Media Industry. However the Allied Republican and The Patriot were later discontinued and The Messenger continued on seeing considerable success as the biggest and most successful newspaper and is now a part of the new Big Three in the Media Company made of The Messenger Media Company, MMS Entertainment, and Liberty Radio.
Following the success of The Messenger, it tried to branch out into a new publication The Messenger's Scout that would be a subscribed base newsletter of sorts. This came about since The Messenger has never charged people to view its issues and it promised that it never would. This hasn't always been the most profitable route but it has kept The Messenger popular and accessible. The Messenger's Scout however would be a failed venture only getting three issues, though The Messenger Media Company did try to revive it by hiring CDLand as its Editor in Chief, but this fell through.
The next big venture of The Messenger would be Messenger TV where videos would be made and posted on Youtube. This venture saw massive success and Messenger TV became very popular seeing its first season of 6 episodes and even received a green light by North Republic Industries for a second season despite not seeing too much money come through. It was though popular. With the success of Messenger TV, North Republic Industries reorganized The Messenger (the company not the paper) into The Messenger Media Company to avoid confusion when referring to the company and the paper. Also because the name is pretty cool.
Now over three years and half years later The Messenger has published 40 issues and become an icon of the region. When asked in an exclusive interview Editor in Chief of The Messenger and CEO of North Republic Industries Lewis and Daniel said "It is an honor and a great achievement to see 40 issues come to the region. I hope that The Messenger will continue to be an icon of the region, that the people will continue to show it love and support it. I hope that one day even it take many more years that we can celebrate 100 issues." Lewis and Daniel is for the most part the sole author of The Messenger. Some other authors have contributed articles here and there such as Libertarian Washington but for the moss part The Messenger is all the work of Lewis and Daniel. Additionally The Messenger is the only paper or media source that reviews and recommends anime.
For The Messenger's efforts and source as a cultural and historic resource Pendragon University Library has started to archive old issues of The Messenger in effort to preserve the history and culture in them along other works of literature to provide for a common location of culture for the region.
The Messenger Media Company is thinking about other ways to spread. One such thought is The Daily Messenger which would be one article issues so that more material is out the door on a more regular basis since it won't take as much work as The Messenger issues. However doing this could dry up some material for The Messenger. Another thought is to have another shot at The Messenger's Scout. However it's all unknown.
So here it also is after detailing the history of The Messenger. Thank you. Without your support, your kind words, your love, your money, your views, and comments The Messenger never would have made it this far. The Messenger hasn't always been regular having dry periods and not always publishing as much as we or others would like. However you all have been supportive and have helped to make this happen. The Messenger thrives on those good words, those views, your support, your money. So thank you for 40 Issues and three and a half years of writing for you. I hope that you will continue to support us and the other ventures that we have. It has been a pleasure.
Thank you.
January Sumo Tournament!!!
Ozeki Kotoshogiku
Another sumo tournament over, and boy was it not only an interesting one - it was a historic one. It marked 10 years since a Japanese born wrestler had won. We had all three Yokozuna, the 4 Ozeki, and an interesting line up. Let's get going.
Ozeki Kotoshogiku - Won the tournament! With an amazing record of (14-1), he became the first Japanese born wrestler to win in 10 years breaking the long dry spell. He won the first 12 days straight, winning against all three Yokozuna in three amazing matches. Such as when on day 11 he went up against the only other undefeated wrestler at the time Yokozuna Hakuho. Only losing on day 13 against longtime friend Toyonoshima. It was Kotoshogiku's best record to date, before he had at most only gotten 12 wins and that was back in 2011 right before he got promoted to Ozeki. 2015 wasn't the best year for Kotoshogiku but 2016 proved to be a new year, new Kotoshogiku. He kept though his signature belly bump, but had a lot more other moves add in which might have helped with his win. Also in January Kotoshogiku got married and had his birthday, along with winning his first championship. What does this mean for March? If Kotoshogiku can win in March then he will almost assuredly get promoted to Yokozuna and be the first Japanese born Yokozuna since 2001 I think. However if he can do that is a hard question, and it will also be a hard to thing to do. If he can though, or even win a second tournament anywhere in 2016 (though he won't be promoted to Yokozuna unless he has about 2 consecutive wins) he will become an icon, if not already. It is safe to say though that the entire eyes of Japan will be on him in March to see how he does. If he can manage to win the first 7 to 10 days straight then people will seriously begin to talk again about him winning and about promotion. However with this historic win along with his birthday and wedding there will be a lot of parties and it will be hard to say if he can put in the practice needed to win in March.
Yokozuna Harumafuji - Many were wondering if Harumafuji who won the November Tournament would be able to win again this tournament and get his first back to back win since 2012 as Ozeki which got him promoted to Yokozuna. However Harumafuji lost on day 2 which for most of the tournament put him in the back seat while attention was focused on Hakuho and Kotoshogiku. However after losing on day 2 he did go on to win the next 9 days straight only to be stopped by Kotoshogiku. Then losing to Yokozuna Kakuryu and then winning against Hakuho to secure Kotoshogiku's win. Harumafuji along with fellow Yokozuna Hakuho and Toyonoshima were runners up to Kotoshogiku. Harumafuji got a (12-3) which is good for a Yokozuna.
Yokozuna Hakuho - He had a mixed bag this tournament, he had some really weird wins again and making people wonder. However he did win the first 10 days straight only to lose against Kotoshogiku on the 11th day and then to lose against Ozeki Kisenosato and Yokozuna Hakuho on the last two days to secure Kotoshogiku's win. Many people have been wondering what is up with Hakuho, some suggesting a lasting injury that he hasn't told anyone about, others suggest that he is just board. Some of his wins and losses weren't great performances. However he still managed a (12-3) record which as some people suggested that we would say Hakuho is slipping with a 12-3 record, no one else. The number though is still good. It will be interesting to see what 2016 will hold for him. He hasn't won the last three tournaments and the last 5 tournaments have each been won by someone different.
Yokozuna Kakuryu - His first lost was on day 3, losing again on day 5. Overall Kakuryu provided for some good wins, but also was never at the front of the back and seemingly took a far back seat to his fellow Yokozuna and Kotoshogiku. Kakuryu was able though to get a (10-5) record which is alright, at least getting double digit wins is good, it could have been better with at least one more win. He was though able to get a win over Harumafuji, though lost to Kotoshogiku, Hakuho, and Kisenosato.
Ozeki Kisenosato - Usually when people think that if any Japanese born wrestler will win they usually think that Kisenosato will do it. he has had a consistent record as Ozeki, more than most, and was runner up around 8 times but never managed to win - some people cite choking as the cause. Kisenosato had a mixed tournament this time, losing on the first day and only getting a (9-6) record while people thought that he might not be able to get his 8 wins, which doesn't happen too often for Kisenosato. He did win against Yokozuna Hakuho and Kakuryu. Some are saying that by Kotoshogiku winning Kisenosato might get it in him that he can too and that he will win in March or later in 2016. In fact some people even suggested that January would be Kisenosato's tournament.
Ozeki Terunofuji - Poor Terunofuji he has been struggling with injury, though he won the first two days he struggled. He then lost, won lost, and then on the 6th day he pulled out due to his injuries. I think that it was his collar bone, but his knee isn't doing so well either. With him pulling out he will be Katoban next tournament meaning that if he doesn't get at least 8 wins in March he will be demoted, though the next tournament after that if he can get at least 10 wins he will be promoted again if not then he will have to start all over again. People aren't sure if he will even be able to make it back in March and if he does they aren't sure if he can get at least 8 wins. Only time will tell what will happen with Terunofuji, though people still think that he will get promoted to Yokozuna within the next couple years.
Ozeki Goeido - Hoping for a good 2016 he changed his muwashi (belt) color, and for the first two days he seemed like he was going to do well this tournament with new focus for the new year. However he lost on day 3 and day 5, then got a walk over win on day 6 only then to lose the next 9 days straight. He finished with a terrible record of (4-11) and will go katoban. If he can't get at least 8 wins in March he will be demoted but will have one last chance as a Sekiwake to get at least 10 wins to get promoted back with out the usual process. Most people think this is the end of Goeido as Ozeki though they think he won't retire since he is still relatively young, but never to be Ozeki again. Who knows, with a terrible record like that it is hard to say what will happen. If January 2016 wasn't the rebirth of Goeido maybe March 2016 will be, and he better hope to as well.
Sekiwake Tochiozan - He didn't have the best tournament getting a losing record of (7-8) just barely getting it. With this record he will almost surely be moving down in rank most likely down one to Komusubi. This is after just several tournaments ago when he was making a push to be promoted to Ozeki. It might just be a small bubble for him and he might make a rebound back to Sekiwake in March.
Sekiwake Yoshikaze - Unfortunately not having the tournament that everyone wanted him to have he still manged to get a winning record of (8-7) at his highest rank that he has achieved. People love this feisty guy but this tournament provided to be a challenge compared to prior ones. Hopefully though in March and later tournaments he can rebound and get those double digit wins needed to make a campaign to Ozeki and then hopefully make it there. I think that he can do it, he just has to put his mind to it again. This is his highest rank and it can be a hard rank. We will have to see what the rest of 2016 has in store for this man.
Komusubi Tochinoshin - It was amazing to see that even after having a losing record last tournament of (7-8) that he still remained a Komusubi, this is likely a gift to him because he didn't get promoted before even though he had a winning record. However this tournament proved to be another challenge, and he got a not so good (6-9) record and I think his knee is causing some trouble. He will find himself back down in the Maegashira ranks, most likely around 1-3. I hope that he can make his way back to Komusubi and hopefully from there Sekiwake and Ozeki.
Komusubi Ikioi - After some previous tournaments that were really good and seemed to bring a new Ikioi this tournament proved to be too hard for him as he only got a (5-10) record, which is really bad to get double digit loses. After working his way back up to Komusubi he will be finding himself down in the Maegashira ranks probably around 3-5.
Maegashira #1 Shohozan - After having an amazing tournament in November, he moved all the way up to his career height of M 1. Even though he lost on the first day he was able to get a kinboshi (gold star) win over Yokozuna Harumafuji but that was really his only notable win of the entire tournament as he finished (5-10), disappointing as he will fall down to around 5-7 or something.
Maegashira #3 Ichinojo - He hasn't been having really good tournaments, and this is another one of them as he got only a (2-13) record, which is really bad. If Ichinojo doesn't do something and start putting effort into it and working harder he will find himself back down in the Juryo Division. Next tournament Ichinojo will likely be around Maegashira 8-10 or so.
Maegashira #3 Kaisei - Only ever look at Kaisei for FS, even though he is gone I thought I would talk about his fellow Brazillian who didn't do so hot. He only managed a record of (5-10) and will find himself down a considerable distance. FS lost and so did his Brazillian. You know I have no clue if FS even likes Kaisei or sumo for that matter.
Maegashira #5 Osunaarashi - He pulled out before the tournament and was absent for the entire tournament. I have no clue where we will see him in March if we even will. His injury might be very serious and we might not see him again in March.
Maegashira #6 Okinoumi - He had a really great tournament with a great record of (10-5) and also went the first 8 days with only 1 lost which is pretty good. For his efforts he will likely get around Maegashira 1 or so. Let's hope that Jason's guy from Shimane ken can keep up the good record in March.
Maegashira #7 Toyonoshima - He had a really great tournament and got the Outstanding performance prize. He is the only person this tournament to beat the winner Kotoshogiku. Along with this (12-3) record he is one of three runner up for the tournament. He did really well this tournament and will likely see himself up around Maegashira 2 or so.
Maegashira #8 Myogiryu - Really falling low after last tournament when he was Sekiwake. Now Myogiryu is even struggling in the mid maegashira ranks and only managed a (8-7) record. He will find himself higher in rank than this tournament but one wonders if he will be able to make it back into the higher ranks.
Maegashira #9 Sadanoumi - Oh! Sadanoumi how many times are you going to get a losing record?! This is the 4th tournament in a row that you've done this. Now you did only get a (7-8) which isn't the worst but it could be better. You are going to have to do better! You need to do some work to stay my favorite wrestler, already I am being won over by others. Put some spirit into it. We will likely find him around Maegashira 10 or so.
Maegashira #11 Endo - On the 7th day of the tournament he pulled out after getting 5 loses and only 1 win. Ending the tournament with a record of (1-6-8) this really isn't good and he is suffering from injury but will he be able to overcome these injuries and make it back into the top? Not too long ago he was getting really popular but now has fallen. He will likely be around Maegashira 14 or so, if Edo can't do well in March we might see him drop down into the Juryo division.
New Government
A new government has taken up office. Kastros Drakan a member of the Otaku Party, currently the largest party by membership in the region. Kastros first ran for the New England Senate Seat against Lewis and Daniel of the Otaku Party both of whom were running for Chancellor. Pepe Drakan briefly said he would run for re-election but then backed out. Lewis and Daniel then threw his support behind Kastros for private reasons like time, and other things. Then right before the election Lewis and Daniel took the full step and dropped out handing the election to his fellow Party member. After which Kastros went to the Senate and no one went to oppose him. So in all the road was wide and open for Kastros who rode in and succeeded Pepe. This has been the second chancellor from the Holy Britannian Empire (New England). Now the Holy Britannian Empire will hold the Chancellery for what looks like three terms in a row under two people. This could show the prominence and power of the state.
Also to note is that Kastros is the first Otaku Party member to be elected Chancellor, this has given some rise to more power in the party, that some hope will continue. After being elected Chancellor Kastros appointed his cabinet to include Imperium as Vice Chancellor, Lewis and Daniel as Secretary of the Interior, Timpetotia as Secretary of State, Regionia as Secretary of the Treasury, Pepe Drakan as Secretary of Immigration, and Britarvia as Secretary of Culture. Many hailed this cabinet, while others said nothing likely because no one ever says anything. However from the looks of it it seems to be a solid cabinet.
Afterwards he nominated the Supreme Court with CDLand as Chief Justice, Obito Drakan as an Associate Justice, and RNS as an Associate Justice. After some time the nominations were approved by the Supreme Court.
Many are looking for a great term and many expect to find it. All signs point to a great term, and the Otaku Party may very well be working towards that working to make sure that Kastros and by extension the Party looks good.
SMRP to End?
Rumors have been going around that SMRP (State Military Role Play) should be ended. This rumor has spread for multiple reasons, such as businesses rejecting SMRP for its practices, to people just not wanting to wage any wars unless they are certain wars under their terms. Others think that SMRP heats the region up too much and causes too much pain and breaks the region apart causing month long scars.
At the same time government leaders and the SMRP Board will likely want to keep SMRP around because it has become a hundred thousand dollar industry run by the government and part of that money is redistributed and people love that "free" money. So many might want to keep around for those reasons.
However the number of wars that happen in SMRP is almost non existent. There was only one war at the start of SMRP, then a war games which doesn't really count since it had no impact on the states, a mini war of a day, and some threats of war. However from people many don't want another war, but some do but most just want the states to slap each other around with nothing changing. Most SMRP activity is about amassing weapons in an arms race.
So will SMRP end? Maybe - it is a real thought to have. However when we have this thought will more money be distributed back to the people who spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on weapons? Will people be willing to stop moving this much money even if it is going to the government and then back to the people with little getting to manufactures? What will happen? I'm not sure, it's all just a rumor right now.
Market to Expand? New Life? Lots of Rumors.
Several rumors have been going around about the Market and its parts.
Firstly North Republic Industries is rumored that it may restart its stock. In doing this it would refund active existing stock holders with money or new stock. This is to put North Republic Industries back on the market, reform its Board of Directors, and help to give new capital to the business. With many of its old stock holders being in active it might be the best time to strike to do this to limit the amount that it will reimburse old holders.
Next North Republic Industries is rumored to be involved with a huge business deal with Columbia Conglomerate about Allied Federal Bank. Rumor has it that this Bank will be huge and profits will be huge. North Republic Industries and its CEO are rumor that they will be holding thousand upon thousands of dollars in the bank to generate interest, capital, and money. One person said who we won't name "It could be the biggest business deal and money maker that North Republic Industries has ever seen." Who knows how it will turn out.
Next rumor, that with the return of Libertarian Washington "in retirement" is guise to bring Liberty Radio out of hiatus and with Liberty Radio out hiatus means the return of Who Cares? The best post show, so good that some even forget about the regular show.
Another rumor is that North Republic Industries and other businesses are willing to invest thousands of dollars in new businesses or returning ones. One random person that we talked to said that "[they] would pay money to see [or rather hear] the return of Cosmo Radio." Another person said "sup." and yet another person said that "[they] want to hear a radio show with Hunt." Another person said that people should help to support old and new businesses.

One Punch Man
Perhaps the most popular anime in the fall season of 2015.
The Story is about Saitama who couldn't find a job and always wanted to be a hero, and one day after saving a child he decides to become one for fun and so trains for three years and becomes the strongest man ever able to take out anything with just one punch, but he is under recognized and some other funny stuff.
The Story is alright to good. It is a parody an comedy with action. It can be really funny at times too because of the set up that we have, at other times though I found myself not laughing. When I watched it with my anime club I was always laughing then when I finished the last four episodes or so on my own I hardly laughed. So I don't know. However I can say that it can get really funny.
The characters they are good too for the most part, Saitama is funny as is Genos. The other characters are for the most part all minor and don't really bare any. I would also say that Saitama and Genos do have character development which I wasn't expecting but was nice to see. Though Saitama has the most development though it is really only one part and at one moment.
The art is really good.
The music as well was good. The opening and maybe the ending though are really the only notable pieces, but the opening is really rememberable so that is good.
The voice acting was good as well for the sub.
Overall this was a good anime that I enjoyed. It provided some nice laughs at the beginning and brought about a nice anime.
Hikaru no Go
An early 2000s anime.
The Story is about a boy named Hikaru who when in his grandpa's shed finds an old go board (go is a board game with black and white pieces that revolves around territory) and that board has in it a spirit named Sai who has lived on in the go board because he wants to live more than one lifetime playing go so that he can play the divine hand (the best game possible). The two become bonded and start their journey together.
The Story is really good, it show over a couple years the journey of Hikaru and Sai and the progress that they make together. Since this is a longer series of 75 episodes and covers like 2 or 3 years in the series it really is able to show the progress of the characters and their development. Even though I had no prior knowledge of Go, nor really know too much more about it, I was still able to get interested in it and invested in it because you are still able to feel the tension form the matches. The only big problem might be in the ending as it is nice but at the same time missing something and that makes me a bit sad, or really sad. It is a mixed bag ending and I kind of wish they didn't go that route.
The characters are good Hikaru, Sai, and a few others are well fleshed out and developed. Some characters though fall into the back ground and after some time lose importance and you forget about them and they don't play a huge role. However I think that by showing the course of several years they are able to show more natural and real progress of their skill and their persons.
The art is older as it is an early 2000s anime, so it doesn't look all too much like the 1990s but it does at the same time. The art does improve I think as the series goes on. Though I must say I didn't mind it at all as it wasn't really bad art just an older art.
The music was good I generally liked the openings and the endings, and even some notable and rememberable ones. Though some is forgetfull and I ended up skipping some of the openings to get to the main thing and they weren't all too great.
The voice acting for the dub was good. I liked it and thought that the voices went well with them.
Overall it was a good but long anime with an ending that I wasn't all too fond of. It did provide me with a lot of enjoyment at times and I really liked that, and it was good to get this unique subject matter about this old game called go. Overall I think that it was a good anime but like I said long and with an ending that I didn't really like all too much because of what was missing.
